mplayer vs. xine: mplayer not able to play ASF stream but Xine can -- why?
I am having trouble playing some (but not all) pre-recorded ASF stream on mplayer 0.90. The situation is not consistent because even on a single given site, some files play and others don't. Note that all these files play both under Xine and under Windoze Media Player. I know that mplayer has troubles with some ASF streams, but if the problem is some type of proprietary or encrypted M$ format, how come Xine is able to play them OK? Note I have all the latest win32codecs installed. Specifically, I get the following outpt from running: mplayer -v switch http://www.a7.org/data/songs2003/07/02/matay-madregot.asx ------------------------ MPlayer dev-CVS--3.2 (C) 2000-2003 MPlayer Team CPU: Intel (Family: 8, Stepping: 4) Detected cache-line size is 64 bytes CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1 Reading config file /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf: No such file or directory Reading config file /home/johndoe/.mplayer/config Reading /home/johndoe/.mplayer/codecs.conf: Can't open '/home/johndoe/.mplayer/codecs.conf': No such file or directory Reading /etc/mplayer/codecs.conf: Can't open '/etc/mplayer/codecs.conf': No such file or directory Using built-in default codecs.conf CommandLine: '-ao' 'esd' '-v' 'switch' 'http://www.a7.org/data/songs2003/07/02/matay-madregot.asx' get_path('font/font.desc') -> '/home/johndoe/.mplayer/font/font.desc' font: can't open file: /home/johndoe/.mplayer/font/font.desc Font /usr/share/mplayer/font/font.desc loaded successfully!
