I have 1 DVD called Chicken Little that the same command dvd://1 does not start playing the movie. I have to issue dvd://5 to start playing the movie.
This is based strictly on the manufacturers of the dvd. The number signifies the title number. If it isn't the first one you usually have to play around to find the right one. I have found the pressing the dvd button in the gui usually works, but I assume that most my dvds are dvd://1.
The only way I can think of for an autodetect is to write a shell script to perform it.
Use lsdvd then grep the output for the largest title, then throw that title in as an arguement to mplayer.
$ mplayer dvd:// plays the longest title automatically. -Corey
