I'm trying to download a stream so that I can save bandwidth and watch it locally rather than over the net each time.
I tried as:
mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile A0001_001_004_rabble20021029.rm \ rtsp://a969.v8295b.c8295.g.vr.akamaistream.net/ondemand/5/969/8295/7d336f14/1a1a1ada4ec02586f36694077bdc4ec22586f96d9bfe6dda093d71a0f257b824/A0001_001_004_rabble20021029.rm
Unfortunately before the end of the stream I get a core dump..
No, you don't. Have you ever seen a core dump with a smiley? The file you dumped is in the current directory under the name stream.dump (it's all documented in the docs).
