encoding a DVD ripped from win ?

Hello. I'm trying to encode a dvd ripped from win by a friend. He gave me just those files: vts_02.d2v vts_02.idx vts_02.lst vts_02_0.ifo vts_02_1.vob vts_02_2.vob vts_02_3.vob vts_02_4.vob vts_02_5.vob vts_02_6.vob vts_02_INFO.txt I tried "-dvd 1 -dvd-device ./" (after moving all the files in video_ts directory), but all I got is: Playing DVD title 1 libdvdread: Couldn't find device name. Reading disc structure, please wait... libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO. Can't open VMG info! Since it's _02_* I tried -dvd 2 too, but same result :-( (Obviously I tried linking vts_02_0.ifo to video_ts.ifo , too) The vobs are decrypted (I can play 'em one at a time w/ mplayer), and I know I can "cat *.vob | mencoder" ... But is there a way to play that dir as the original dvd? I fear that the "cat" method could give problems (clicks or skipped/duplicated frames) when jumping from a file to another... Am I paranoid ? :-) I'm trying it just now, but it takes a lot of time :-( Tks. BYtE, Diego.

compile error

mpeg->divx 3-pass conversion- Aspect ratio?

I have a script I wrote to convert mpeg to divx using 3 pass conversion. I'm having a "problem" though. Some mpegs will keep the aspect ratio fine and some seem to "loose" it in the conversion. I've tried -aspect 1.33:1 and -vop scale=1.33:1 and both exit out with an error. I'm stumped as to what to try next in order to get mencoder to output a properly formated divx file? crash with -vo fbdev

Running the latest CVS (dev-CVS-030211-20:06-3.2.2) version of mplayer with command-line options "mplayer -vo fbdev test1.avi test2.avi" crashed after playing test1.avi with following: fbdev: Can't put VSCREENINFO: Bad file descriptor FATAL: Cannot initialize video driver. I ran it through gdb which said: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. #0 0x4040d129 in free () from /lib/libc.so.6 #1 0x08094e60 in uninit () at vo_fbdev.c:1263 #2 0x08064b69 in uninit_player (mask=1) at mplayer.c:383 #3 0x0806973f in main (argc=6, argv=0xbffff704) at mplayer.c:1625 I think it is fbdev (reinitialization?) problem because it happens every time when I try to play more than one file per run (inc. using playlist). Other outputs (-vo x11, svga, xv, vesa, aa, etc..) worked fine. P.S: I am running 2.5.59 kernel (rivafb driver) so that "bad file descriptor" might be because of that, but I noticed the same problem some time ago on 2.4.20 aswell. (no way to test it now, though)

to use b-frames with mencoder

hi, first at all sotty for my bad english a stupid question but b-frames with lavc are active by default or isn't? because in docs documents: vmax_b_frames 0-4 (maximum number of B frames between non B frames) 0 no b frames (default) 0-2 is a sane range for mpeg4 and i think that is not active by default...but then there is this command line: vb_strategy 0-1 for pass 2 0 allways use the max number of B frames (default) 1 avoid B frames in high motion scenes (this will cause bitrate misprediction) so if i use this line i use or not b-frames? mencoder -oac copy -o /mnt/divx/file_finale.avi -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=10000:vhq:vpass=2:keyint=50 -vop scale=592:352,pp=0x20000 -mc 1 /mnt/divx/film.vob very very thanks -- +----------------------+ | LINUX USER | | #272849 | |http://counter.li.org | +----------------------+

There's something I don't understand from the mencoder man page. vbr=<0-4> variable bitrate method 0: cbr 1: mt 2: rh(default) 3: abr 4: mtrh abr average bitrate cbr constant bitrate. Forces also CBR mode encod ing on subsequent ABR pre sets modes Does vbr=0 ("variable bitrate method 0") mean constant bitrate? Does vbr=3 mean the same as abr? <bit ambiguous> Struan.

No sound in QT6/AAC movie (faad2)

Hi. I'm trying to play a movie (the Maura Tierny on Conan from mauratierny.org) using 0.90rc4 and I get no sound. I have faad2-1.1 installed and it's linked in mplayer Using xine I can hear the sound (but not see the video) so there's nothing wrong with the faad-lib (I've been toying with playing the movie simultaneously in mplayer and xine to get both sound and video :). I've seen the same question earlier in this list but there was no answer then. I hope I'm luckier. (BUGREPORT) Anybody has problems with subcp in RC3 and RC4?

Hi! In RC2 subcp option worked fine for me and I had subcp=WINDOWS-1250 in ~/.mplayer/config. In RC3 and RC4 it is broken - the characters are translated improperly, if a subfile encoded in windows 1250 has DOS-style CR/LF end of line characters. Instead of polish diacritical characters I get garbage chars. The same subfile displays fine when I revert to RC2. I'm compiling Mplayer with freetype support: ./configure --enable-freetype --enable-gui --enable-debug --enable-largefiles --enable-linux-devfs --enable-menu --enable-new-conf --enable-dynamic-plugins I'm attaching a test.txt subfile. The first one is made in RC2, where subtitles display fine, the second and third are from RC4, where the characters are garbled.
