noise at beginning of mp3

Hi. mplayer outputs a short (0.5 seconds) noise at the beginning of some mp3s. It seems to have something to do with how the mp3 were originally encoded. I know for instance that all mp3 encoded with Itunes play correctly. Is this a problem with a list of usual suspects or should I provide more details about my setup? Blue stripe

I'm using an EPIA MB with a Trident Cyberblade video chipset. I get this thin blue stripeto the rigth of the frame when playing videos with the XVideo output. It doesn't show on the framebuffer. I would love to use the framebuffer, but I can't get it to scale to fullscreen. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance... Hugo

Brightness and contrast setting ineffectual

Hi, Mplayer (to date) is the only DVD player I have been able to get to work on Linux RedHat 8.0 so for that I thank you. My only problem is that I cannot (GUI controls on KDE 3x) set the brightness and contrast. The image is too dark. Nothing I do to reset the image works. Is there something I can do to correct this. Please Note: I'm a complete newbie to Linux. While I have completely abandoned M$ cold turkey, I still have a great deal to learn. So please be as clear and step by step as possible. using 2-pass with vqscale and lavc

Does it make sense to use 2-pass encoding if you're setting vqscale for constant-quantizer lavc encoding? I know that the main reason for 2-pass is so the rate control code can vary the quantizer to meet the bitrate requirement. But are the statistics gathered during the first pass used for anything else that might improve the output when using vqscale? thanks, Jason

to use b-frames with mencoder

hi, first at all sotty for my bad english a stupid question but b-frames with lavc are active by default or isn't? because in docs documents: vmax_b_frames 0-4 (maximum number of B frames between non B frames) 0 no b frames (default) 0-2 is a sane range for mpeg4 and i think that is not active by default...but then there is this command line: vb_strategy 0-1 for pass 2 0 allways use the max number of B frames (default) 1 avoid B frames in high motion scenes (this will cause bitrate misprediction) so if i use this line i use or not b-frames? mencoder -oac copy -o /mnt/divx/file_finale.avi -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=10000:vhq:vpass=2:keyint=50 -vop scale=592:352,pp=0x20000 -mc 1 /mnt/divx/film.vob very very thanks

I have been using ffmpeg to grab and compress video and audio in realtime. I haven't tried mencoder but it seems that it also can grab and compress video and audio in realtime. To people here who have tried both, in what ways is ffmpeg better than mencoder in this task?
