Hi gurus, i try to compile/run mplayer under linux and so far this worked fine, that is, i have MPlayer-0.90rc3 up and running. This morning i realized, that MPlayer-0.90rc4 is out. PSNR Question Completed!

Sorry 'bout my previous incomplete email (sent by a rogue keypress). I'm comparing the PSNRs generated with different lavcopts when encoding a 60s chunk of a DVD. I don't understand why the PSNR *decreases* when I crop the black borders surrounding the picture. bug in scaler ?

Hi I have hit a problem with mplayer. I am encoding a DVD movie keeping a pretty high resolution (854x362). If I play the movie it shows very good without any scaling, if I switch to fullscreen (Im using xv driver but I have tried the software scaler with -vop and does the same) then Ill get strange lines arround the objects (if there is a white object in a black background then Im getting white lines arround the object). What is the problem ? hi, this supposed to be a BUGREPORT I intsalled new the lastest mplayer (CVS) [ok, not newest, I get the src 20 min ago :) ] ./configure make su make install and get some error message: (...) install -c -m 644 DOCS/mplayer.1 /usr/local/man/man1/mplayer.1 install: cannot stat `DOCS/mplayer.1': No such file or directory because all the docs in the en/ hu/ ... directory. -- tamas : http://yikes.tolna.net/~crown/

1. it says: "To use more than 2 output channels, you will need to use OSS......... (ALSA CVS is also supposed to work)." as you see this sentence simple isn't correct: a. you don't need oss, alsa is also fine b. you don't need alsa cvs, a normal alsa release is enough from the 0.9 series 2. "Use the -channels option to select the number of output channels. " well, it's correct, but it's not enough for alsa. in case of oss, a "mplayer -ao oss -channels 4 my.avi" is enough, but in case of alsa, you need: "mplayer -ao alsa9:surround40 -channels 4 my.avi" or "mplayer -ao alsa9:surround51 -channels 6 my.avi". at least on my sb-live. i think this is very important, because i personally had to search for this info for DAYS. btw. in chapter 2.2.1.1: divx4/divx5 "The new generation of this codec is called DivX4 and can even decode movies made with the infamous DivX codec! In addition it is much faster than the native Win32 DivX DLLs but slower than libavcodec. Hence its usage as a decoder is DISCOURAGED. However, it is useful for encoding" so, it's slower than libavcodec so don't use it to decode files. that's ok. bot afaik it doesn't compress better or faster than libavcodec, so why should anyone use it for encoding? => i don't think that this "it is useful for encoding" is a good idea. what about "it can be used for encoding, but libavcodec encodes faster/better"? i'm thinking: are these kinds of bugreports useful? or the docs maintainers already know about these problems? i'm asking because i was thinking about reading thru the docs and trying to find the errors and report them, but if it doesn't help, then i won't dao it. i know i should send patches, but as you know, it's easier to read than to write :) ( ok, i'll try to create patches ) gabor -- That's life for you, said McDunn. Voodoo3

Just had a box , celeron 830 / FreeBSD 4.7 / old Voodoo3 2000 PCI. Even on a poor old 14 screen, colors are much greaters than on my 19 HP M900 / Nvidia 4200 Ti / Debian :) Why ? Using RC4 : configure , gmake ; gmake install , without trouble . Poor Nvidia drivers ? No troll svp , just curious .. rc4 and losing first pause

As of rc4, mplayer still ignores first "pause" key press when running with -menu. The first press seems to "stick" somewhere, and when you press "menu up" key afterwards, it "releases" pause. After quitting menu, the whole thing repeats. I remember this were reported before, but maybe someone will fix that before release or just will update the docs, describing this as bug. -- Vladimir

How to find out "timestamps" of a mpeg stream?

Hallo! I need some way to find out how long (in seconds) a mpeg stream lasts. Problem converting multiple video files-vo jpeg command

I aim to make some preview images of serveral video-files (rm, avi, mpeg) on my harddisk via mplayer -vo jpeg option. Unfortunately when I run find ~/Vids/ -name "*.mpg" -exec mplayer -vo jpeg -ss 15 -frames 10 {} \; all the previous made jpegs get overwritten by the subsequent ones. Is there a way to avoid this? Or could someone give advice on how to write a small script (as I'm afraid I don't know how to do this nor where to start looking for answers).
