Hi. 1. 4mv is not valid for xvid > 0.9.x, while the manpage doesn't say so. 2. It's -ovc xvid, not -ovc xvidenc as the manpage says now. I've spent a lot of my personal time a to improve xvid section lately, so I'd appreciate you'd double check with CVS before sending such a message.

The manpage doesn't say such thing. Though it does read: NOTE: Use -ovc help to get a list of available video codecs, which output is correct, at least with my cvs version.
You know what to do. ;)
Yes, please, next time, check with a fresh CVS... or send a nice patch! Regards, Guillaume

deprecated != invalid. Check your dictionary. :P "deprecated" means "still valid, but you should use something else instead". I wonder if any other "deprecated" options have already been phased out and are no longer valid.

Oh, but it does. Twice, in fact. [...] CODEC SPECIFIC ENCODING OPTIONS (MENCODER ONLY) You can specify codec specific encoding parameters using the following syntax: -<codec>opts <option1[=value],option2,...> Where <codec> may be: lavc, xvidenc, divx4, lame, x264enc ^^^^^^^ [...] xvidenc (-xvidencopts) There are three modes available: constant bitrate (CBR), fixed quantizer and 2pass. I would, if I had some more free time. Besides, you're doing such a nice job that I wouldn't want to get in the way. :P R. -- MPlayer RPMs maintainer: http://greysector.rangers.eu.org/mplayer/ "I am Grey. OK, I'm sorry, I'm a bit wrong, too. You're right about "-<codec>opts", but I'll insist that "xvidenc (-xvidencopts)" should read "xvid (-xvidencopts)", similarly to "lavc (-lavcopts)". Patch rejected. I agree that it's inconsistent, but the current way it fits the description: You can specify codec specific encoding parameters using the following syntax: -<codec>opts <option1[=value],option2,...> Where <codec> may be: lavc, xvidenc, divx4, lame, toolame, x264enc Diego
