Hi! I just did an almost complete re-translation of the last version of help_mp-en.h to Romanian. The new file is attached. I translated everything I think should be translated, see the comments in the attached file for details. I'm sorry, but I'm on a very old computer right now, and forced to use windows, so even browsing and email is painful, so I'm not sure this is where I'm supposed to send it. If this should be sent somewhere else, please forward it there. I probably won't be subscribed to the mailing list long - I can't handle much traffic right now - so please cc anything for me to my email if at all possible. -- Bogdan Butnaru bogdanb@fastmail.fm -- http://www.fastmail.fm - The professional email service

Gabu, please do not blindly commit help files. Check them before committing and ask for improvements first. See my answer to Bogdan's mail. This one should be reversed. Diego

Thanks for doing the translation, the Romanian translation has been in need of a maintainer for quite some time. It's very much appreciated. Still, it can be improved. Some comments below.
// $Revision: 1.115 $
This is unnecessary. The English master file has it so that the translations can easily reference a particular version. Leave that out.
// Translated files should be sent to the mplayer-dev-eng mailing list or // to the help messages maintainer, see DOCS/tech/MAINTAINERS. // The header of the translated file should contain credits and contact // information. Before major releases we will notify all translators to update // their files.
You should not copy these lines from the master file, just follow the instructions. Look at some of the other translations (e.g. Spanish, French) to see how it should be done.
// The translation is partial: I did not translate most low-level errors, // things you have to know programming to get, because if you understand it // you almost certainly know English. Also, asking for help is easier that // way (an error message in Romanian, or a Romanian to English translation // by a neophyte is probably useless for a non-romanian programmer).
Please do not leave English messages in place, leave them out instead. MPlayer will default to the latest English version of the message. Otherwise users will not see the latest message if it is changed.
// I added '//' comments wherever I need more info: // ** '// lang' where english files where cited in the original version // (as in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html). If there are romanian versions // of such files, please replace the URLs.
There are no Romanian versions, leave them as they are.
// ** '// dunno' where I wasn't sure of the message's meaning; please send me // an explanation of where the message appears and why. // ** '//!' are notes for myself or other translators; I used these whenever // I couldn't find a satisfying romanian translation. I think the // translation of many technical words is counterproductive: those who // actually understand the technical meaning know the english word; // translating would confuse them and won't make things any clearer // for someone unfamiliar to it. So I didn't translate things like // framebuffer or colorspace, nor compile-related errors and such. // You should ignore this mark, but other translators might use // them.
I think these comments should not be necessary. You are the master of your translation, use the words you deem fit. If you do not translate the message, leave it out, as said above. I'll try to clear up some of the confusion below...
#define MSGTR_FormatNotRecognized \ "====== Scuze, formatul acestui fiºier nu e cunoscut/suportat =======\n"\ "=== Dacã fiºierul este AVI, ASF sau MPEG, te rog anunþã autorul! ===\n" // dunno - 'please contact the author!' -- is this supposed to be the // author of the clip, or that of mplayer?
The MPlayer developers, not the author of the clip.
#define MSGTR_MissingVideoStream "Nu am gãsit canal video.\n" #define MSGTR_MissingAudioStream "Nu am gãsit canal audio -> rulez fãrã sunet.\n" #define MSGTR_MissingVideoStreamBug "Canal video lipsã!? Intreabã autorul, ar putea fi un bug :(\n" // dunno - The same question as above
see above
#define MSGTR_PREFERENCES_Panscan "Panscan: " // dunno - I don't know what this is, but it probably shouldn't be translated
Movies get panscanned, i.e. cropped, so that they fit a TV screen. They usually have a 16:9 aspect ratio whereas TV has 4:3. Just google for it.
#define MSGTR_PREFERENCES_SUB_Overlap "Alege suprapunerea subtitrarilor" // dunno - what's this?
See the -overlapsub option in the man page.
/* lang * I translated these, but I'm not sure it's such a good idea; only the central * european charsets are relevant to romanian; if you need something else you * are probably not interested in it's romanian name. */
I'd say translate them nevertheless.
#define MSGTR_PREFERENCES_PlayBar "Activeazã playbar" // dunno - What is the playbar?
A small gui that appears in fullscreen mode if the skin supports it. Dunno which skin supports it off the top of my head...
#define MSGTR_PREFERENCES_None "Nimic" // dunno - what's this for? #define MSGTR_PREFERENCES_FontFactor "Font factor:" // dunno - what exactly is this?
dunno ;-) Can somebody else explain these? Another nit: Please do not add trailing whitespace to your translation. Thanks for your effort Diego
