I do quite a bit of searching the online documentation (downloaded single file mplayer.html). Now if I type -vf in my firefoxes find bar, I get NO hit at all (zero). That goes for any search containing a hyphen or a minus (-don't think these are different here).
Next I type vf and get more hits than I can handle. I searched the list for my issue, and found just one post:

The link is wrong, what is the problem?
the html manual uses a different hyphen/dash than what most keyboards output. this means if you search for -quiet , most web browsers fail to find such text on the page. http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html hit ctrl+f and enter -quiet. -compn
