"MPlayer" is also able to load and use Microsoft binary codecs and does so directly rather than using Wine. Perhaps this method could be applied to whatever is being proposed here?
That's a good point. I just checked, and it seems that there is quite a bit of code which references ACM data structures in loader/acm.c and loader/wine/msacm.h. So for those of you just joining the party (the Open H.323 list and the MPlayer lists), we're trying to get access to the Microsoft G.723.1 codec distributed with Windows from Linux so we can make cheap telephone calls around the world without using a lot of bandwidth. This enables, among other things, the ability for Gnomemeeting to talk to a Quicknet card using the optimal G.723.1 codec. I have a few questions: - Does the ACM code in mplayer depend on any mplayer-specific stuff that would have to be provided in order to load and use ACM codecs? - For the Open H.323 guys, is it feasible to extend the video codec layer to access all the codecs provided by mplayer's video codec interface? Last time I poked around in there, I saw all sorts of hard-coded references to H.263 and friends. - Is anyone aware of any codecs comprable to G.723.1 with better audio quality and/or less bandwidth usage? Apologies for the massive crosspost. -- - Jason Conscience is what hurts when everything else feels so good.
