Start Volume for mplayer
Hello, I often receive request about the ability of setting start volume by command line, this is useful if using frontend with salve mode the author of smplayer made a little patch http://smplayer.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/smplayer/mplayer-build... this sets both r/l with 1 value, a better solution may be using x:y or so. What about? regards -- Gianluigi Tiesi <sherpya@netfarm.it> EDP Project Leader Netfarm S.r.l. - http://www.netfarm.it/ Free Software: http://oss.netfarm.it/

the author of smplayer made a little patch http://smplayer.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/smplayer/mplayer-buil ds/patches/startupvol.diff?revision=1203
Actually the patch was made by Reimar Döffinger, I've just took it: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-users/2007-December/070500.html This -volume option is really useful (and needed) for smplayer. -- rvm

What's wrong with '-af volume'? Not that a more explicit way of doing this would necessarily not be good, but it can certainly be done already... -- The Wanderer My usual .sig is on vacation while I adjust to my new computer

-af volume adds a filter to scale the audio samples. Adjusting volume at runtime sets the mixer level instead if possible (which may be hardware volume).

I've never been able to use -af volume along with the volume slave command. If I use -af volume=-200 to start silent, then the volume command doesn't work, even if I set it to 100 there's no sound. I suppose there'll be a way to make it work, but it's not obvious to me. I find the -volume option from the patch much better. I can use the same value I use for the slave command, and it's not required to use another filter more. Also, many slave commands have a direct equivalent for command line: brightness, contrast, osd... why not volume? -- rvm
