When -subfont option was added, the intent was to still use the font given by -font for subtitles unless -subfont was specified. http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-cvslog/2007-May/030108.html However, it was only implemented that way for bitmap fonts. [PATCH] x11 vo drivers override user settings for window placement

This bug (so far) only exists in the svn version of mplayer. Here's what happens: 1. Kermit uses mplayer to play a video. 2. mplayer opens a window. At this point, the window manager or session manager places the window where it thinks is best, taking into account Kermit's preferences and the size hint already supplied by mplayer. 3. mplayer moves the window to the center of the screen. The window manager of course has the opportunity to override this, but it would need a compelling reason. 4. Kermit complains to me, saying "hey, I really wanted that mplayer window to be placed according to my settings." First of all, since you're setting the size hint, the only reason to move the window at all is in case there isn't a window manager running. While that probably happens more often for a video player than most applications, I'd still wager it's pretty rare. However, you don't have to give up on that case to resolve this. You can just move the window before mapping it. I've supplied a patch to do just that, and it works. Oh, and it also makes the gl2 driver set the size hint before mapping -- that's pretty important. Encoding DVD with en EDL

Hi, I have problems encoding a DVD title using an EDL: the pts is reinitialized at some point and whole parts of the title are skipped even though they should not. I've already posted on this subject on mencoder-users with no payoff. Have a look at this thread: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.video.mencoder.user/5867. Here is a patch which fixes this issue but only in precise seeking (-hr-edl-seek). Regards, Olivier

x86_64 and windows codecs

Hi. Nowadays, 64 bits systems are becoming quite common, and it would be nice to be able to easily play videos with proprietary codecs on those systems. I see 4 solutions to do that: - Using a 32 bits mplayer. Well, that works, of course, but it it not really convenient. As for me, I find it really inconvenient. - Having free decoders. Well, of course, this is the best solution, and the situation have greatly improved since last year. I thank the people responsible very much. Unfortunately, the result is not yet perfect. For example, the TV show that I download daily is decoded quite poorly (the image is very rose; I can provide samples if this not a known issue). - Using 64 bits windows DLLs. I have read that microsoft had finally released them, and I wonder if someone is working on it. - Using a separate 32 bits process just for the decoding, with pipes (or shared memory). This last solution seems to me especially interesting, because I think it is in the range of my abilities. Do you think I should start hacking on it? Regards, -- Nicolas George

Hi, All Attached patch adds tv:///<input_id> syntax which allows users to start watching their movies from Composite or S-Video input without touching -tv input= option in config file. I hope it will be usefull for standalone boxes like GeexBox.
