For what it's worth, this sort of error is often caused by library problems--notably a mixture of libc5 and libc6 libraries--in which case there's obviously nothing mplayer can do to report the problem (because it hasn't even started yet). --Andrew Church achurch@achurch.org http://achurch.org/

Well... sorry for the last big mail, I found this morning that updating libavifile0.6 (from CVS, i did debian packages), and installing divx5 codec fixed the error.

BTW couln't the error be more explicit?
