New Bugzilla entry #402 (problem with RealVideo content in a Matroska, for PPC)

Hello, I've already reported this bug about three monthes ago on the mailing list. Somebody already sent me a patch at that time (I think it was Moritz) but it did not solve the problem. I have downloaded Mplayer CVS today and found it is still not fixed, so I have made a Bugzilla entry for it in the hope it will be fixed some day. I am writing below a short description of the bug like it is in bugzilla. This is a reproducible bug when playing Matroska files with a video track encoded in Real Video 9/10 format on a PowerPC. Mplayer crashes as soon as it starts playing the track. When I extract the video track from the .mkv, mplayer plays the .rm fine. This probably shows that it is the demuxer system of mplayer, when demuxing from the .mkv, that is at fault and not the Realvideo codec. The problem does not seem to happen on a x86 so I really suspect an endianness problem here. I think somebody knowledgeable, with access to a PPC machine, could fix this bug with minimal effort since it is reproducible. Thanks Jean-Noël

a user came into #mplayer with questions about bad sector dvds http://www.hisxpress.com/cross-country-2-dvd.html was the dvd he was trying to play " I tried mplayer -dumpstream dvd:// on one of those "bad-sector protected" DVDs, and it literally ran for 12 hours and still didn't get completely done." "My standalone DVD player had not problems playing the original DVDs." i tried to explain to him the problem was the dvd with bad sectors or the dvdrom for not skipping bad sectors... his response "Some new DVDs put bad sectors onto the DVD. Standalone DVD players use the menu info files so that they skip over the bad sectors, but mplayer doesn't." maybe there needs to be a faq on protected (non standard, drm etc) dvds... -compn

e.g. when luser wants to use -vo x11 and he asks why he gets message like Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. can it also say 'vo x11 not enabled, please enable at compilation'? or 'vo asdf not availible vo, maybe you made a typo?' because currently it does not say if luser has vo or not. also... Could not find matching colorspace - retrying with -vf scale... Opening video filter: [scale] The selected video_out device is incompatible with this codec. Also try adding the scale filter, e.g. -vf spp,scale instead of -vf spp. FATAL: Could not initialize video filters (-vf) or video output (-vo). can mplayer be made to automatically try adding ,scale to the filter list??? this would fix a lot of colorspace/filter problems, no? i think mplayer tries to add scale, but it does not help. retrying playback using -vf fspp,scale would fix it (as it does with my display) see? instead of this message "Also try adding the scale filter, e.g. -vf spp,scale instead of -vf spp." it could just retry automagically without user intervention. -compn

How to mask the keystrokes in slave mode ?

Hello all, I wonder if it is possible to start MPlayer in slave mode in such a way that the video window doesn't react to keystrokes. I am starting it like this at 200% but when a user presses ESC or Q,, it quits. mplayer -slave -quiet -nojoystick -nolirc -geometry 50%:50% -xy 2 -mms://xyz.com/xyz.asf Actually the video window is always in focus since I am embedding it within a Java application and I need to make mplayer not receive the keystrokes. Did I miss any option in http://www4.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/tech/slave.txt or http://mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html ? I saw the -nomouseinput option but was actually looking for a -nokeyboard option. Any ideas / suggestions friends ?
