trouble encoding NTSC anime (broken telecine?)

Hi, folks. I'm trying to encode "Slayers Try" NTSC R1 DVD, but no matter what combination of filters I use (granted, I probably haven't tried all of them), I can't get good results. Original material is 720x480, aspect 4:3, 29.97 fps. Here's what I get: -vf pullup,softskip -ofps 24000/1001 -> jerky panning, some ghosting -vf softpulldown,ivtc=1 -ofps 24000/1001 -> as above -vf filmdint,softskip -ofps 24000/1001 -> as above -vf pp=l5 -> fluent movement, some ghosting -vf divtc=deghost=64 -> almost fluent, some ghosting I'm uploading samples to MPHQ/MPlayer/incoming/Slayers_Try-ivtc/ Slayers_Try_01.mpeg - streamdump (seek to 00:01:40 -> -ss 00:01:53). Slayers_Try_01.*.avi - sample output of the filters mentioned above. If you seek to 00:01:40 (-ss 00:01:53) you'll see a scene with a seagull at the beginning of the episode. Ghosting artifacts can be seen clearly when the seagull passes through the middle of the screen (one second later). Please help me find the best filter combination. I haven't tried 2pass divtc yet. force video codec, ignore fourcc/format in codecs.conf

i'm trying to test different mpeg4 decoders on an mpeg4 file, is there a way to just use -vc xvid file.avi and have it use the codec, so i dont have to edit every codec in the codecs.conf and add fourcc blah. currently mplayer reports Forced video codec: xvid Cannot find codec matching selected -vo and video format 0x584E4957. Read DOCS/HTML/en/codecs.html! so instead of editing codecs.conf and adding format 0x584f4957 under videocodec xvid, i could use something like -vc:force xvid or can this be put in the wishlist?

Hi there developers, I am new here and I am not a developer. But I wrote a few lines of code to solve a tiny bug (rather a 'nag'). I like to share it with you. Hopefully it could be used in the project. As till cvs 20040622 the 'bug' still exists. Symptoms: When using "vobsub" sometimes there will be no subtitle displayed. Cause: It occurs when "langidx:" parameter in .idx contains an id and this id is not defined as a language. Vobsub.c will contain no valid lang-id in var "vobsub_id" and will not display a subtitle at startup. I have seen this behaviour many times in vobsub v7 generated idx files. Test file: Take an .avi with a vobsub .idx and .sub. Edit .idx file; change value for "langidx:" like below: ("langidx:" value must differ from all "index:" values) langidx: 0 id: hu, index: 6 (meaning "choose langidx 0 as default. Langid "hu" is defined as langidx 6) Solution code placement: Module: "VobSub.c" Function: "vobsub_open" right after line: *spu = spudec_new_scaled_vobsub(........); Code: /*================================================================*/ (...) void * vobsub_open(...)
