Inverse telecine filters ineffective?

Hello. I'm trying to encode an apparently telecined NTSC DVD (an orchestral concert recording) with mencoder (latest CVS). I've tried softpulldown+detc, softpulldown+ivtc and pullup and the combing effect is still noticeable, especially on the edges of white surfaces. The odd thing is, softpulldown says (at the end) that: softpulldown: 598 frames in, 598 frames out What does it mean? I also get many "1 duplicate frame(s)!", like one in every 10 or 20 frames. The material is not interlaced, because deinterlace filters result in a horrible ghost effect. Any clues? Or am I totally wrong and missing something? I'm uploading a piece of the DVD to mphq/MPlayer/incoming as Requiem_DVD_ivtc_ineffective.mpeg (ripped with mplayer -dumpstream). MPEG2 height not multiple of 16

HDTV 1080i uses 1080 lines, which is not a multiple of 16. The problem is that libmpeg2 forces the dimensions to be a multiple of 16, however libmpdemux/mpeg_hdr.c uses unrounded dimensions. So one part of mplayer thinks that the image have 1080 lines, while an other part thinks it is 1088. I'm not completely sure what happens after that, but I suspect that space is only allocated for 1080 lines, since if I apply filters, for example detc, without cropping, the top lines of the output is discolored, which would happen if the last 8 line of the luma plane overlaps with the top of the first chroma plane. This whole thing does not happen with -vfm ffmpeg. The ffmpeg mpeg2 decoder is also faster, but it does not set the fields flags, therefore it is not usable for encoding content that is switching between hard and soft telecine with variable top/bottom field first. I really do not know enough to fix libmpeg2. This could be a serious problem, since it may result in writing beyond the allocated memory, which may be exploited in some way. But this may not happen for some other reason, since I haven't actually seen any crashes caused by this. I've put a 2MB 1080i sample to ftp.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/incoming/HDTV_1080i.ts Play it with -tsprog 2. Zoli

X11 error: BadDrawable

There seems to be a race condition bug that kicks in whenever mplayer starts playing a video. About one time in four crashes immediately with an X11 BadDrawable error. Usually immediately rerunning the same command line works fine the second time. I think it's the same error that nearly always kicks in when one movie ends and it tries to start a second one. This is why it nearly always fails when you list more than one movie on the command-line. The backtrace is fairly uninformative except to show that somehow XSync is triggering the error. In reality it's probably being caused by some previous X11 call with bad data. Why on earth is flip_page calling XSync anyways? XSync doesn't have anything to do with flipping video pages. bug in mencoder - divx5-encoder and libavcodec-encoder

Hi, i'm back from my military service for austria (i has also to do my job on the state border to hungary ;-) ), and i've got a bugreport for you. i've some files (MPEG2) i cannot encode with mencoder + divx5 nor mencoder + libavcodec (mpeg4). with divx5 it hangs (not crashes!) while loading the encoder, with libavcodec it crashes while encoding (at the end of the video). see ftp://ftp.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/incoming/divx5-libavcodec-bug-by-jaf/ the tar.bz2 file include the logs, termi.vdr is the cutted video file. if you need anything elso contact me. mfg johannes
