Fw: [MPlayer-users] no end-of-file stop please (feature request)

Begin forwarded message: Date: Sun, 23 Jun 2002 12:42:19 +0100 From: Sam Liddicott <sam(a)liddicott.com> To: mplayer-users(a)mplayerhq.hu Subject: [MPlayer-users] no end-of-file stop please [Automatic answer: RTFM (read DOCS, FAQ), also read DOCS/bugreports.html] Here's a feature request; for mplayer not to exit if I seek to the end of file, but to just stop seeking It needs some trickery and hence discussion here; My guess is: We probably still want it to quit when it plays to end of file, but not right after it finishes seeking to the end of file. So I guess if someone seeks close to the end of file (or does any seek?) and then end of file is reached, it does an implicit pause for a couple of seconds giving the person the chance to seek backwards again and find the spot they were seeking for. Then after the implicit pause times out it plays (to the end of the file). Further after pausing for a couple of seonds it may find the file has grown and keep playing; so this would also be good as a follow mode; I sometimes get one instance of mplayer to record to file and a minute or so later start another to read from the same file thus giving me tivo-like live pausing of the programme. I guess this is not the time to talk about tivo-like circular buffer files, but maybe another day. Fw: [MPlayer-users] DVD subtitles

Hi, Could someone have a look at this ? I got the same prob with a few dvds (though never found the time to report it) and also one of my friends told me he had the same prob with one dvd. Attila Kinali Begin forwarded message: Date: Thu, 20 Jun 2002 16:39:11 +0200 From: "Lubomir Blaha" <lubomir.blaha(a)sofis.cz> To: <mplayer-users(a)mplayerhq.hu> Subject: [MPlayer-users] DVD subtitles Hi all, I have little trouble with subtitles on DVD Animal. Some subtitles are lost (not shown) without any warnings, some with "SPUasm: invalid fragment". Subtitleripper (http://subtitleripper.sourceforge.net) whitch have similar spudec.c works fine. Deinterlacing at full frame rate.
by Francois SIMOND 22 Jun '02

22 Jun '02

Hello to every mplayer-user and developper ! MPlayer contains useful deinterlacing techniques, but i've noticed the lack of a full frame rate deinterlacing method, that output 50fps with PAL, and 60fps with NTSC. This is the simplest and efficient way to obtain fluent animations and scrollings. Mostly TV sources, camecorders sources, and some badly encoded DVDs (poorly NTSC->PAL reencoded), are interlaced to be seen on a TV. So, they look much nicer when viewed at teir original frame rate. DScaler, a great ( win32 only :`| ) program does this job realtime, grabbing video from a bt8x8 card. It use highly optimized deinterlace filters (like Greedy High Motion / GPL, written by trbarry - see http://www.xvid.org/forum/viewtopic.php?topic=384&forum=2 ), or Simple BOB. ( or 3:2 / 2:2 pulldown for film sources, autodetected ) The result is often visualy better than what does a 100Hz tv. It could be very cool if you implement (one of) these techniques, the simplest is BOB, i think it can be implemented in minutes ;) as you know, TV displays alternatively odd and even lines, simple BOB does the same: ->the man goes this way-> -----------time-----------> @25fps --------- --------- | O | | O | | --|-- | | --|-- | | | | | | | | /_\ _ | | /_\ _ | --------- --------- interlaced the same image / 25fps @50fps --------- --------- | | | O | | --|-- | | | | | | | | | / \ | | _ _ | --------- --------- even odd lines lines only only lines not displayed becomes black ( or dark ) with simple bob, animation is smooth :) I wrote this long mail because I really want this display mode ( or deinterlacing techniques ) to be inclued with MPlayer ! Not any linux software does it, xaw-deinterlace, xawdecode, xine always output at 25fps instead of 50 ( these software took their deinterlacing techniques from DScaler, but didn't implement it correctly ) Not any avi-player does this under win32, but in some configurations powerdvd does. These functionnalities are usefull with DVDs, MJPEG, V4L, interlaced XVID.. I hope i'll get your attention. if not I will learn C and send you a patch .. after 1 or 2 years :) thx for this powerfull piece of software curio

So launching mplayer -vc help could report only codecs that are compiled in. Or perhaps a character like +/- could show compiled/not compiled codecs. Eg: I have partial avi file which has a corrupt frame part way through and when the reindexing process gets to this frame it stops and starts playing the file. The windows equivalent (DivFix) notes the corrupted frame and keeps reconstructing the index. So the end result is that I can't watch the avi file past the corrupt frame with -idx or -forceidx. The command lines I used were: mplayer -forceidx test.avi mplayer -idx test.avi Both have the same result. Is this feature going to be added? Fw: [MPlayer-users] MPlayer status on MacOSX
by Attila Kinali 16 Jun '02

16 Jun '02

Hi, Just in case someone overlooked it on -users Attila Kinali Begin forwarded message: Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2002 19:54:08 +0200 From: Klokan Petr Pridal <xpridal(a)informatics.muni.cz> To: mplayer-users(a)mplayerhq.hu Subject: [MPlayer-users] MPlayer status on MacOSX [Automatic answer: RTFM (read DOCS, FAQ), also read DOCS/bugreports.html] Hello, First to new Real codecs: Great job! I will enjoy it on Linux, and I'm not alone... On Mac there is no way, do not? It uses binaries for IA32... BTW MPlayerOSX had more than 10.000 download in the first two-weeks! Somebody (Arpi?) talked here about support for QuickTime binary codecs, it's multiplatform? Will be supported under Mac? There is no support for indeo, sorenson, wma... for MPlayer like under IA32 from DLL/proprietary binaries. Who develop MPlayer port version for Mac? Is there some Mac-programmer? I know about Atmos (Felix B.) and Joey P., who have only access to Darwin on SF server farm (I think)... It would be pretty made a new -vo and -ao named quartz, which uses QuickTime (like in the VLC project). It will give better performence under MacOSX, I think. I have it on my todo list (maybe in the future :-), but any help is really wellcome... My status on MacOSX (If somebody differ, answer me): - Running -vo SDL is quite good (and people use this), but there are some bugs. Read my mail in dev-mplayer list... - When -vo x11: "RGB32 not supported on big-endian systems, please contact the developers" (And shared memory don't run too under XDarwin. :-(() - When -vo xv: In these days XDarwin run me XVideo extension, but my ATI Radeon don't have support. Is there somebody who run XVideo on MacOSX/Darwin? - When -vo gl, gl2: Xlib: extension "XFree86-VidModeExtension" missing on display ":0.0" And crashes after open window: interrupted by signal 10 in module: decode_video When I have time and somebody want reapair it, I will send better bugreport. Now I have CVS snapshot 20020607, gcc 2.95.2 - I have only libavcodec compiled. Do somebody use anythink else? - In the configure is not support for compilation of libmpdvdkit, I made it by hand. Darwin patches of dvd_reader.c is applied in this CVS version, but compilation of libmpdvdkit stoped me. Is supported or not in this time? Ohhh. Now I read about new patches... we will see.. After playing four files in a row, at the fifth mplayer always crashes. It's a very annoying and long standing bug, please someone (Nick?) have a look at the files I uploaded to mphq's incoming/vesa directory (bugreport.txt is the description and debug.txt is the debug session) -=+=- Tibcu -=+=-
