Hey People! First of all: YOU ARE ALL CRAZY! I was some kind of offline for some months and now trying to catch up with the development, but you did too much! And the worse: the development speed of mplayer is continously increasing! Heck! Where do you find the time ? I saw that the DVD support improved a lot (thought couldnt test it yet) and you also added DVD subtitels support. Which i thought is impossible with out libvo2 (this rises the question, what did you do ?) There is now an audio resampling support (thanks a lot!) mencoder is greatly working and it looks like the framedrop code got also some improvements (less framedrops and in smaller chunks) Which changes did you apply to the framedrop code ? What i havent had a look at it is the postporcessing (need to find a good file for it) and the things i dont know that they are new. Would be someone be so kind to give me a short resume what happend ? I dont think i'll find the time to read the 1200 mails in the mplayer-devel inbox. Especialy what the status of libvo2 is and which is the code you are working on at the moment ? What should i test/look for ? Nick, what is the status of your linux video driver project ? Preliminary version of Linux video overlay driver interface

Hello! I've done preliminary version of possible candidate for subj. Against of current mga_vid this standard doesn't limited driver by PITCHes. Also it have support of DMA and video equalizer. What it's lose: OSD support DVD's subpicture support (is it really need?) MPEG1-4 and DVD decoding Any questions, suggestions, feedbacks, critiques, extensions, new features are gladly accepted. I guess - if we will have troubles with linux-kernel extensions for multimedia then let mplayer has own drivers. New standards

Hello! I'm still very interesting with standards for kernel_vid drivers in mplayer stuff!!! Unfortunately, Romain Dolbeau have wrote me: Well, apparently Linux stated he wants IOCTL out of the kernel, so I guess a new IOCTL-based interface is out of question :-( It _might_ be integrated in 2.4 (it was designed for 2.4.x, after all), but I don't think there'll be enough interest. OTOH, your stuff is apparently using an non-IOCTL interface ; if you can make it chipset-independant, it will be of interest. Also, more parameters will be needed I think. ... It seems that his stuff will never appeared in the Linux. OTOH - GATOS have leave linuxvideo and have been moved into sf.net. As I understand - mplayer is only project which contains all kernel_vid drivers. So we have chance to develop new standard ;) It's need for futured development of our drivers. (M$ implemented new DirectX standards enough frequently but we are behind now :( ). mga_vid currently is bottleneck for radeon :( We should expand it or introduce new interface. Well - it would be possible to implement fbvid.h based interface or any other. As I already wrote - there will no problem of backward compatibility with existed matrox drivers. Problems reading defective avi file

Hy, I just uploaded the file "Angelic Layer - 08.avi". This file can't be played until the end. After just about half of the video (12min) it stops. Using -forceidx improved seeking but it still couldn't reach the second half. It's confirmed that the video does contain the information. I did the log without forceidx and did a little seeking. Lots of error messages. And the timer jumped to the second half but the video and sound didn't follow. VP32 codec support?

Hi, I found on slashdot in one of the posts that there is an open source codec called VP3 (from www.vp3.com) The license is a MPL with 2 minor modifications, and according to many people who uses it - it provides a far better compression/quality ratio then sorenson codec... Can this codec be supported under mplayer please? You can get the codec source code from the web site (you'll need to register - it's free), but you'll need an MS enviroment to compile it.. radeon_vid and vo xmga

Hello, Arpi! I've tried to run: mplayer -vo xmga:/dev/radeon_vid ... and got only pink window. But when I run mplayer -vo mga:/dev/radeon_vid ... over my radeonfb then I get perfect quality of movies. Any ideas please! Best regards! Nick

Can't frontend mplayer?

(Sorry, sent this to mplayer-users by mistake!) Hallo! I'm developing a multimedia frontend program, and I wanted to be able to let the user use mplayer (if installed) as one of the backends. However I can't seem to build a commandline and call mplayer from within my own program! For example, this simple program: #include <stdlib.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { system("/usr/local/bin/mplayer -vo null -quiet -framedrop /mymediafiles/fred.mpg >/test.log"); return 0; } Examining test.log (from the above) shows that mplayer parses the mpg file OK and gets as far as starting to play, but crashes everything (the keyboard is locked up, and I can't Ctrl-Alt-Backspace out of X, can't switch to another terminal, but the OS is still running underneath - I can connect via ftp). If I run mplayer from an xterm with the identical command line it works fine! Can someone try the above program, of course replacing the path with some video file on your own system, and see if it is possible? Or maybe offer some suggestion as to why it behaves so strangely? :)
