edl for transport stream
My receiver for TV programmes stores videos as transport stream. I tried cutting out scenes (e.g. commercials) using -edl - however, it seems that the transaport stream does not use seconds as time unit. Even edl scripts created via -edlout do not work - scenes cut out are different from what I selected before. Sure, I can re-encode using mencoder and do that job with the output file - in fact, this is what I am doing now. However, does anybody know how I can edit the transport stream properly ? It would spare me one long step of re-emcoding. Malte

-hr-edl-seek -- Don't trust me! I'm wrong!

Thanks for that suggestion - however, I did not succeed with that additional option specified. Malte

Hi. I don't really understand the problem, nor how it 'did not succeed', but I'll describe you a known to work method to skip commercials. 1. Play your file, using -edlout edl_file, pressing 'i' when needed 2a. If you don't want to reencode the streams (just remux, -oac copy -ovc copy), you can just specify -edl edl_file, and the cut will not be accurate, as mencoder has to resume remuxing on the next I frame. 2b. You want to reencode the streams, using -oac xxx -ovc xxx with xxx others than 'copy', and then you specify -hr-edl-seek -edl edl_file, and then the cut should be accurate. Please give some tries, and if it doesn't work like you want, please tell how you differ from the method I suggested, your exact command lines, mencoder's outputs, your edl file, as well as the result of 'ffmpeg -i your_tv_capture.ts'.

I did some further tests and found that most of the videos in fact work fine. However, there are sometimes videos where the timestamps start with rather high numbers and are reset to 0 in the middle of the film. It seems that in these videos, there is a problem. The timestamps I have in the edl list cut out other parts of the video that what I intended. I only can edit properly after a first "-oac copy -ovc copy" of the video. Malte
