Hi I'm just coding a graphical conversion utility between DVD<->AVI formats. Is there a way to requantize a source DVD9 title to fit DVD5 using MPEG2 techniques in mencoder? I guess 'transcode' has such feature. thanks

Nope.
I guess 'transcode' has such feature.
Not really, it just happens to also install a 3rd party program that handles requant. MPlayer doesn't install a dozen different unrelated utilities, so you'll just need to download M2VRequant/Requant/tcrequant yourself.
