Fwd: Has the bug (mencoder -mc 0 -noskip has memory leak for 5.1 audio stream) fixed?
Sorry, I should post it here instead of mplayer-user maillist. To: MPlayer-users@mplayerhq.hu Hi, I have met the same bug(with latest cvs source code) described by following poster in this maillist one year ago, and want to make sure whether anyone has any idea about it? ---------------- On Fri, 2004-03-05 at 10:47, Wayde Milas wrote:
I've read the bug submitting howto and I'm trying my best to submit a well informed bug.
The full dump is attached as a txt file. I am using the cvs versions of ffmpeg and mplayer as of 3/4/04
Observations:
1) If I do -nosound the bug does not appear. 2) The bug does not appear if the audio stream is 2.0. It only seems to manifest on a 5.1 stream. 3) I've used multiple DVD's. It crops up at the same place (secondwise) no matter what dvd I use. 4) I've tried various codec options. Something as simple as: mencoder dvd://1 -o Starwars2.avi -mc 0 -noskip -skiplimit 0 -oac copy -ovc lavc -vf crop=720:362:0:58 -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vqscale=2 still exhibits the behavior.
I'd be glad to expand on the bug report. Just tell me what info you need.

I've compiled mplayer on a pent4 box and a amd athlon xp box and they both exhiobit this same behavior. anyone have a clue as to what happening? Wayde ---------------- When I use "mencoder -mc 0 -noskip dvd://1 -of mpeg -oac copy -ovc copy -tt xxx -endpos xxx ...", several seconds(e.g.300 seconds) later mencoder tell me "too many audio packages in buffer..." and exit. When mencoder is encoding, it eats memory more and more and doesn't release it properly. I mean when I change (demuxer.h) #define MAX_PACKS 4096 to 409600 and #define MAX_PACK_BYTES 0x800000 to 0x80000000 , it will never pop up "too many audio packages in buffer..." message but it has eaten up more than 1GB memory for encoding 50 minutes DVD!!! Then I'm sure there is memory leak for mencoder -mc 0 -noskip to dealing with 5.1 audio stream. (Maybe you will suggest me to use mplayer -dumpstream, but I want to use mencoder -ss and -endpos feature.) Looking forward to your reply and thanks! Best Regards, Xie Bo

My guess is that the destination file grows larger than 2GB. I'm not sure if MEncoder/MPlayer is supposed to support that. Guillaume

Try without "-mc 0" and/or "-noskip" and see if it works.

Yes. Why can't some people grasp that these options are NOT advised, and that if they fail it means a/v is horribly desyncing...? Rich

Rich
If I use "-mc 0" without "-noskip",there is not "too many audio packages in buffer..." but it is desyncing. If I use "-noskip" without "-mc 0",there is "too many audio packages in buffer..." but it is syn. If I use "-noskip" and "-mc 0",there is "too many audio packages in buffer..." but it is syn. If I neither use "-noskip" nor "-mc 0",there is not "too many audio packages in buffer..." but it is desyncing. So I think it is "-noskip" which triggers the memory leak bug,but I am not sure because I have not located the detailed bug position. My goal is to dump my DVD(from 00:05:00 to 00:30:00) to disk. I know the best way is mplayer -dumpstream and it syn well. But mplayer -dumpstream can not set time range(from 00:05:00 to 00:30:00), then I use mencoder to try it. Best Regards, Xie Bo

You continue to send numerous messages to the mplayer mailing lists with very little information, then ignore the responses you get, and just send more messages... Usually with the same problem. The last time you sent messages about desync, Nico told you exactly what information you needed to report, but instead, you started this new thread with the same problem, and still no info. I, for one, am quite tired of it, and will now filter all e-mails so yours is delivered to the trash, unseen. On Sun, 17 Apr 2005 09:29:47 +0200 Nico Sabbi <nsabbi@tiscali.it> wrote:
mencoder is supposed to work well and keep sync, so describe the problem: what kind of content is it? does desync keep constant or does it grow over time? Are there error messages when encoding? What command did you run?

Sorry if I've troubled you! I just want to solve the problem ASAP. I also want to fix it by myself and contribute to the mplayer project which I benifit a lot from. But I am a newbie and need help/suggestion to do it. Very very sorry! In fact, I reported the bug but no responce several days ago but no responce. -------------- From: Xie Bo <xiebopublic@gmail.com> To: MEncoder usage discussions <mencoder-users@mplayerhq.hu> Date: Mar 29, 2005 10:11 PM Subject: Re: [MEncoder-users] A/V synchronization problem using mencoder Reply | Reply to all | Forward | Print | Add sender to Contacts list | Trash this message | Report phishing | Show original

I downloaded it. What about the other question: does desync keep constant or does it grow over time?
does desync keep constant or does it grow over time?
I use mplayer to play the result .mpg file and find the desync grows over time. Best Regards, Xie Bo

I can't berify now, but I have the feeling that this patch (against current cvs) should permit you to mux in sync without -mc 0 and -noskip. Please, let me know if it works correctly
