yadif: what does "spatial interlacing check" mean?
Hi, TFM say about the 2 and 3 options for yadif that they "skip spatial interlacing check". What does this mean exactly? What's the better way to go if I want better quality regardless of encoding time? And would recommendations differ if I use yadif in connection with mcdeint? I'm sorry you didn't get an answer to this, because I need it too. I normally see, when I google for this stuff, that YADIF=3 is chosen. I THINK that is because whatever the 'spatial interlacing check' that YADIF=1 would do, would create interpolated data that mcdeint would then overwrite, wasting effort... but I'm only guessing! Would it be correct to say that YADIF=3 would give the fastest/worst result YADIF=1 would give a slower/better result YADIF=3,MCDEINT would give an evenslower/evenbetter result and that it would not be sane to use YADIF=1 with MCdeint? Is it also true that if you choose a 'bob' type of mode for YADIF, that outputs a frame for each field, that 'framestep=2' will get things working properly by telling mencoder that the frame rate is now double what it thought based on the input fps? -- Peter ____________________________________________________________ Publish your photos in seconds for FREE TRY IM TOOLPACK at http://www.imtoolpack.com/default.aspx?rc=if4

I am now using yadif=1 without knowing what I am doing ;-)

No. framestep=2 will just throw away 1 frame. Of course you get a way smoother image when you run at e.g. at 50 fps than at 25 fps. c -- theatre - books - texts - movies Black Trash Productions at home: http://www.blacktrash.org/ Black Trash Productions on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/blacktrashproductions

Yes, yadif=1 in the worst case would throw away half of the data, leaving not enough for mcdeint to work with (and maybe also break some assumptions mcdeint makes), so to my understanding mcdeint with yadif=1 would probably make things worse instead of better.
