Hi, I have an avi video with 5000 frames. The original frame rate is 15 frames/per second, and it takes 300 seconds to play the whole video. I want the video to play faster so that it takes less time to complete, so I change the frame rate using the following command: mencoder in.avi -o out.avi -ofps 100 -ovc copy However, out.avi still take around 300 seconds to complete, even though out.avi does have fps of 100fps according to the info displayed by mplayer. What command options should I use if I want the output video to be complete in 50 sec? Thanks. Shiyuan

Audio encoder requires unknown or unsupported input format

I am using a program called Playstation Station Media server that calls mencoder for transcoding files in to a format my xbox 360 can play. But the version of mencoder that comes with Playstation Media Server is an older version and sometimes it crashes with the error "-1073741819!" (i think that means 0xFFFFFFFFC0000005 which is general access violation exception) So what i thought i would do is update to the latest version of mencoder ("mplayer-svn-36350.7z") and see if that fixes the error. real time output to rtmp

hello everybody, i am trying to output a local video to a rtmp server and of course i need to do it in realtime. i've tried set -ofps option to 25 (same as source) but it doesn't work. this is what i'm currently running: mencoder.exe c:\temp\vc1\mms.wmv -vf harddup -ovc x264 -x264encopts pass=1:turbo:bitrate=600:bframes=1 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=96 -srate 44100 -ofps 25 -of lavf -lavfopts format=flv -o rtmp://server/app/stream unfortunately the file is encoded and streamed to the server @ ~90fps i have little experience with mencoder/mplayer so excuse me if i make some obvious mistakes. i am using latest mencoder/ffmpeg builds. if what i want to do is not possible, let me explain the background of what i'm doing, maybe you, experienced users have a different approach: basically i want to restream an RTSP-MS (microsoft) stream to a regular rtmp server. unfortunately i can't change anything on the source side to make changes to codec/format/protocol so i am stuck with RTSP-MS which has some non-standard microsoft modifications as transport protocol combined with some VC1 advanced profile video codec which seems to be decoded only by using w32codecs. the first step was to capture the rtsp stream properly which was very difficult because of microsoft modifications (no popular open-source tool like vlc/ffmpeg/etc could properly read the stream). i've managed to do that and created local wmv dumps to continue development. due to the VC1 profile used, latest ffmpeg for example still fails to decode that complaining that "Progressive Segmented Frame mode: not supported (yet)" so that's how i've got in touch with mencoder which can use w32codecs and properly decode the dump. the problem is that i'm fighting now to use somehow mencoder to reencode and stream to rtmp. i've tried chaining mencoder output with ffmpeg with rtmp output option but i am having problems chaining them together, almost nothing works: "pipe:: Invalid data found when processing input" and unfortunately can't find really good examples of piping mencoder output to ffmpeg for further processing for example. of course, when piping i've used the -really-quiet mencoder option without success. any ideas that can help achieving my task? it seems like i must put mencoder somehow into the equation for the wvc1dmod.dll decoder (ffmpeg doesn't want to use windows binary codecs by principle, but they fail to decode my stream http://ffmpeg.org/faq.html#FFmpeg-does-not-support-codec-XXX_002e-Can-you-i…) also, as a side issue, does anybody know why i make tens of searches on google.com using 'mencoder' keyword and almost all results are ffmpeg related (ffmpeg highlighted)? it's like google translates my searches from "mencoder ..." to "ffmpeg ...", it's almost impossible to find things... -- jazzman

Weird DVD with shifting framerates

I have a DVD that seems to be consistent in shifting framerates from 29.970 to 24000/1001 over and over as the video plays. It almost seems this is impossible to rip. With mencoder, I have tried options with filmdint, yadif, pullup+softskip. The video is seen as 29.970 by mplayer. VIDEO: MPEG2 720x480 (aspect 2) 29.970 fps 9800.0 kbps (1225.0 kbyte/s) but then the really strange part is this: demux_mpg: 24000/1001fps progressive NTSC content detected, switching framerate. Then the audio drifts with time. Is it simply not possible to get this video into a normal state? I do not care about whether it is 24000/1001 or 30000/1001. Either is fine, but I want to make sure the audio stays synced. Any help appreciated. I am using this wrapper (written by me) to help https://gist.github.com/Tatsh/5737088 (see line 30 mainly). Moreover, due to bugs MPlayer will play these INCORRECT files as if nothing were wrong! ************************************************************************************** This message still exists in the muxer_lavf.c code as of a February svn check out of MPlayer and the file produced by using the -of lavf flag is not playable in QuickTime however it is (as the message suggests) playable in MPlayer, but with the limited testing that I did with that option the output files were not even playable in VLC. I would do all the steps in ffmpeg if I hadn't spent development time in MPlayer adding further subtitle formats to subreader.c, had I noticed that passing a sub file with -subfile (rather than -sub) directed the decoding to the chosen demuxer (in my case ffmpeg) I would have added those formats to ffmpeg and been able to "burn in" those subs at that level and not need to use MEncoder however as hindsight is 20-20 and duplicating the code into ffmpeg is unadvisable at this moment I'm looking to see if it's feasible to do this through MEncoder. >I am not really sure that seeking in the audio file together with copy >will result in a valid file. MEncoder Creating "Snip-Its" of Audio, Video, and Subtitle files

I'm experiencing some odd behavior when using a combination of MEncoder and ffmpeg to create short clips of media files (specifically in QuickTime mov containers). The end result that I'm trying to achieve is a single output QuickTime mov file from a combination of an input QuickTime file and optionally an External Sub and/or an External Audio File, however I am not trying to mux the external subtitle file into the mov container but rather burn those subtitles into the video stream. What I'm experiencing is seemingly random playback success, e.g. if I create a Snip-It from a prores mov file that is less than 60 seconds in length the output file is not playable in QuickTimePro 7 but is in VLC and and equally so in MPlayer, but in VLC the playback duration reads as 1 minute. Alternatively if the input file contains an MJPEG video stream then the output file of a less than 60 second clip is playable in QuickTimePro 7. But Depending on the exact value used for the duration of the clip the playback in QuickTimePro 7 and VLC show a different duration and playback correctly until it reaches the time in the file that was the duration as passed to MEncoder then the image is distorted but resembles images found in the clip (the audio behaves similarly).
