Hi, I have an avi video with 5000 frames. The original frame rate is 15 frames/per second, and it takes 300 seconds to play the whole video. I want the video to play faster so that it takes less time to complete, so I change the frame rate using the following command: mencoder in.avi -o out.avi -ofps 100 -ovc copy However, out.avi still take around 300 seconds to complete, even though out.avi does have fps of 100fps according to the info displayed by mplayer. What command options should I use if I want the output video to be complete in 50 sec? Thanks. Shiyuan

Hi, I wanted to combine 12 flash video files (from youtube) into a single avi file. So I did cat at Zachar*.flv > Zach_all.flv $ mencoder Zach_all.flv -o Zach_all.avi -forceidx -ovc copy -oac pcm The output shows skipping frames, and missing aspect information, as you see below. What do I need to do to fix that, so thet when I am transcoding into .avi, I do not get these skips and missing aspect info? Help with MPG video encoding

Hi, I've got a question on how to get the best possible MPG encoding of a movie source, "at any price" so to speak -- i.e., as many bits as the encoder needs to get the highest possible video quality. It appears to me that the MPG encoding process is introducing artifacts that are present regardless of the amount of "free reign" I give to the encoder with respect to quantization, bitrate, and the like. My bottom line question is thus: "Are these artifacts inherent in MPG encoding, or am I just not twiddling the knobs and dials on the encoder correctly?" Here's all the details ... My source is a mixed hard- and soft-telecined "movie" at 1080/60i that I'm trying to tanscode to 480/24p, soft telecined to 480/60i, for ultimate burning to an NTSC DVD-Video. When I use mencoder to inverse telecine, crop out the crud, expand back to the original letterbox ratio (it's 2.35:1, not 16/9), and 'encode' the video with HUFFYUV (422P), the resulting video looks stunning, with no 'blocking' artifacts to speak of. This, of course, is as expected. But when I encode the video in MPG2 or MPG4, even with vqscale=1 or vqscale=2, I see sometimes severe blocking in the resulting video. Is this because the chroma is being subsampled vertically and horizontally (4:2:0), or is it because 'vqscale' is (perhaps necessary but) not sufficient to get "maximum quality at any price" encoding? Got a complete output file though a bit larger than I normally get when converting DVD to AVI. This one's about 1.7 GB which isn't a deal breaker. Sound is almost synced in this one - only off by a fraction of a second, just enough to be annoying. What setting should I tinker with to get the sound matched up perfectly? Best video format for ripping DVDs to play on Android tablet

Normally I rip a DVD to AVI with mplayer/mencoder but that seems to be a problem with this specific DVD, prob due to disc encryption (libdvdread was giving errors all over the place) so had to go with MakeMKV and dump it to a 4.1GB .mkv file. The MKV contains the following streams: [lavf] stream 0: video (mpeg2video), -vid 0 [lavf] stream 1: audio (ac3), -aid 0, -alang eng, 3/2+1 [lavf] stream 2: audio (ac3), -aid 1, -alang fre, 3/2+1 [lavf] stream 3: subtitle (dvdsub), -sid 0, -slang eng [lavf] stream 4: subtitle (dvdsub), -sid 1, -slang fre So I only want the video (stream 0) and the English audio (stream 1). The rest can get dumped. Does anyone recommend a format to dump this MKV to without the French or any subtitles? MPEG? AVI? Other? If you have a recommendation for a format can you also suggest the best encoding tool and maybe even a command you would use? It does seem that libdvdread has the problem though. VLC also uses libdvdread on Linux and exhibited the same types of errors. MakeMKV did not have such errors and the DVD plays fine on DVD and BR players as well as Windows DVD viewing apps like MediaPlayer. Converting mkv from MakeMKV to avi with mencoder

However none of the answers I've seen are working for me. I have ripped a movie (Underworld Evolution) with MakeMKV because mplayer was giving me errors probably due to the encryption Sony used on the disc. I now have a beautiful quality 720x480 which is just over 4GB in size. I now want to convert that video and English audio stream to AVI so I can watch on my Android tablet. However I've been completely unsuccessful finding the right mencoder commandline combinations. I either get audio that is off from the video (when I rip the audio to a separate wav file) or the conversion stops with messages like "too many audio packets in buffer (4096 in 7340032 bytes)". I've tried this now on two different Linux machines - a 32- bit and a 64-bit system. Hello, if someone knows the command line for the best method to convert a good video (with no desync) to another format whatever the time of process ? i think we can extract video first in a uncompressed format, and after audio sound still in a wav format and finally, use audio+video to create the converted file i want... any idea ? tks.
