Hi, I have an avi video with 5000 frames. The original frame rate is 15 frames/per second, and it takes 300 seconds to play the whole video. I want the video to play faster so that it takes less time to complete, so I change the frame rate using the following command: mencoder in.avi -o out.avi -ofps 100 -ovc copy However, out.avi still take around 300 seconds to complete, even though out.avi does have fps of 100fps according to the info displayed by mplayer. What command options should I use if I want the output video to be complete in 50 sec? Thanks. Shiyuan

Hi, I wanted to combine 12 flash video files (from youtube) into a single avi file. So I did cat at Zachar*.flv > Zach_all.flv $ mencoder Zach_all.flv -o Zach_all.avi -forceidx -ovc copy -oac pcm The output shows skipping frames, and missing aspect information, as you see below. What do I need to do to fix that, so thet when I am transcoding into .avi, I do not get these skips and missing aspect info? Help with MPG video encoding

Hi, I've got a question on how to get the best possible MPG encoding of a movie source, "at any price" so to speak -- i.e., as many bits as the encoder needs to get the highest possible video quality. It appears to me that the MPG encoding process is introducing artifacts that are present regardless of the amount of "free reign" I give to the encoder with respect to quantization, bitrate, and the like. My bottom line question is thus: "Are these artifacts inherent in MPG encoding, or am I just not twiddling the knobs and dials on the encoder correctly?" Here's all the details ... My source is a mixed hard- and soft-telecined "movie" at 1080/60i that I'm trying to tanscode to 480/24p, soft telecined to 480/60i, for ultimate burning to an NTSC DVD-Video. When I use mencoder to inverse telecine, crop out the crud, expand back to the original letterbox ratio (it's 2.35:1, not 16/9), and 'encode' the video with HUFFYUV (422P), the resulting video looks stunning, with no 'blocking' artifacts to speak of. This, of course, is as expected. But when I encode the video in MPG2 or MPG4, even with vqscale=1 or vqscale=2, I see sometimes severe blocking in the resulting video. Is this because the chroma is being subsampled vertically and horizontally (4:2:0), or is it because 'vqscale' is (perhaps necessary but) not sufficient to get "maximum quality at any price" encoding? Problems encoding DVD from Canon HD Video

Dear all, I'm having problems encoding video from a Canon D600 Digital SLR into mpeg2 format for DVDs. The original video is 1920x1080p. I've created DVDs from this using the default settings of DVDStyler (apart from maxing out the bitrate) and also by a two pass encode using mencoder. I also used ffmpeg using -target pal-dvd, but other options default except for two-pass encoding. The bitrate by default was up over 6500kbits/s. All of these had horrible glitching. Even in still bits of the image there was the wavery underwater type effect where there would be changes to the image happening about every half second or so. The original HD footage looks to be of good quality. Could anyone send me a "no-apologies" bash script (or similar) for PAL DVD MPEG2 that I could try to see if it fixes the problem? Explanation of compiling treatment

Here's one for the open source compiling experts who still use MEncoder. I'm a Mac OS X user who just upgraded to Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8 - they don't use "Mac" in front of "OS X" anymore). Since I upgraded to the previous system version (Lion - 10.7), I've been using a workaround, and now that I've had to adjust my build steps again for the latest system and developer tools (command line tools available with Xcode 4.4.1) I'm hoping to get an explanation for why the workaround is needed. Under Lion's Xcode tools, I found it necessary to include "--cc=gcc-4.2" for my configuration step for both ffmpeg (which is included with the svn for MPlayer) as well as MPlayer itself. With the new Mountain Lion developer tools, I'm finally able (as well as required) to omit that option. I have a little multipurpose script that I've been able to use without any serious changes since I worked it out for Lion that updates source and builds from that source x264, MEncoder, and ffmpeg. When I first constructed the method, I discovered that, for some reason, if I ran "mplayer/ffmpeg make distclean" before building x264, the libavcodec folder installed when I had built ffmpeg previously, but which wasn't removed by "ffmpeg make distclean", was resulting in errors that kept x264 from compiling. So, to make it possible to compile x264 whether or not ffmpeg had already been compiled (because I need x264 installed before I can build the ffmpeg I want), I started my routine each time with: sudo rm -r /usr/local/include/libavcodec/ Can anyone why building x264 required removal of this folder when and only when the ffmpeg folder in the mplayer source folder is either fresh or nonexistent?
