Hi, I have an avi video with 5000 frames. The original frame rate is 15 frames/per second, and it takes 300 seconds to play the whole video. I want the video to play faster so that it takes less time to complete, so I change the frame rate using the following command: mencoder in.avi -o out.avi -ofps 100 -ovc copy However, out.avi still take around 300 seconds to complete, even though out.avi does have fps of 100fps according to the info displayed by mplayer. What command options should I use if I want the output video to be complete in 50 sec? Thanks. Shiyuan

Hi, I wanted to combine 12 flash video files (from youtube) into a single avi file. So I did cat at Zachar*.flv > Zach_all.flv $ mencoder Zach_all.flv -o Zach_all.avi -forceidx -ovc copy -oac pcm The output shows skipping frames, and missing aspect information, as you see below. What do I need to do to fix that, so thet when I am transcoding into .avi, I do not get these skips and missing aspect info? Help with MPG video encoding

Hi, I've got a question on how to get the best possible MPG encoding of a movie source, "at any price" so to speak -- i.e., as many bits as the encoder needs to get the highest possible video quality. It appears to me that the MPG encoding process is introducing artifacts that are present regardless of the amount of "free reign" I give to the encoder with respect to quantization, bitrate, and the like. My bottom line question is thus: "Are these artifacts inherent in MPG encoding, or am I just not twiddling the knobs and dials on the encoder correctly?" Here's all the details ... My source is a mixed hard- and soft-telecined "movie" at 1080/60i that I'm trying to tanscode to 480/24p, soft telecined to 480/60i, for ultimate burning to an NTSC DVD-Video. When I use mencoder to inverse telecine, crop out the crud, expand back to the original letterbox ratio (it's 2.35:1, not 16/9), and 'encode' the video with HUFFYUV (422P), the resulting video looks stunning, with no 'blocking' artifacts to speak of. This, of course, is as expected. But when I encode the video in MPG2 or MPG4, even with vqscale=1 or vqscale=2, I see sometimes severe blocking in the resulting video. Is this because the chroma is being subsampled vertically and horizontally (4:2:0), or is it because 'vqscale' is (perhaps necessary but) not sufficient to get "maximum quality at any price" encoding? Audio/Video Sync Issue

Hi, I have the same problems with dvb-t-captureing using the 1.1 release as reported by Linux <linux(a)thehoytfamily.com> on 2012-06-01. The problem occured the first time when upgrading to Fedora 16. MPlayer-1.0rc4 is working well in F16, but i couldn't get it to compile in F17. There seams to be some issue with the detection of duplicate frames. The output of the 1.1 release while capturing is http://pastebin.com/TfRvWpFp Every 10th frame is marked as duplicate, the framrate remains at about 22 fps. For comparison the output of an older working mencoder release is http://pastebin.com/p8nQLGEx After 102 frames there are no more duplicate frames and the framerate rises to 25 fps. I tried the options mpegopts=format=dvdmpeg2:tsaf=1:vframerate=25:muxrate=10000:vbitrate=10000 noskip=1 fps=25 ofps=25 mc=0 vf=softskip,harddup in different combinations, none worked. Hello everyone, this is the situation. I have an avi file with its asociated srt. I had to 'enhace' the video to a higher fps (from 25 to 30 fps). In order to the subititles got accordingly set into the video I did the following: (Ubuntu 12.04) mencoder outlogov1.avi -sub video1.srt -oac copy -ovc lavc -o outlogov1srt.avi -subcp latin1 -font /usr/share/fonts/msttcore/arial.ttf -subfont-text-scale 2.8 -ofps 30 Is it necesary? Is it right? I appreciate any suggestion if I am missing or I have to improve something. Thanks and regards Rossana

concatenate two avi files

duplicate frames - shortening video?

Hi - Videos are being shortened (losing frames?). My source video is a desktop recording of me scrolling down a web page, and I wait for a few seconds each time before I scroll down further. I think mencoder is optimizing these "similar" frames and drops them. I have tried many variations to keep my long scroll pauses intact: mencoder out.ogv -audiofile myfile.mp3 -ovc lavc -oac mp3lame -fps 5 -o test.avi mencoder out.ogv -audiofile myfile.mp3 -ovc lavc -oac mp3lame -fps 15 -o test.avi mencoder out.ogv -audiofile myfile.mp3 -ovc lavc -oac mp3lame -fps 15 -vf harddup -o test.avi mencoder out.ogv -audiofile myfile.mp3 -ovc lavc -oac mp3lame -vf harddup -o test.avi These are the type of messages I see: 1 duplicate frame(s)! Pos: 10.9s 151f (93%) 16.10fps Trem: 0min 2mb A-V:-0.133 [1406:210] Each time, I see duplicate frames being dropped, and my video is a very fast scrolling down the web page. I thought -vf harddup made it not lose frames? How do I keep the same video length as my source file? Very big thanks!! :0)

Audio/Video Sync Issue

Mencoder was working for me under Fedora 11 (64-bit) but I upgraded to Fedora 16 (64-bit) and now the audio is way off of the video. By more than 10 seconds. I recompiled from SVN and still the same problem. What are things I can try? mpeg4 asp .. no takers?

A lot of 'asp' documentation I've read from various sources has a good deal to say about motion compensation. A lot of mencoder/libavcodec documentation covers motion estimation. In the libavcodec realm, Is compensation tied into estimation in such that when you address estimation with the various tunables, are you somewhere 'under the hood' making compensation decisions as well? Even though I'm not a programmer, I've tried to read the source to answer some of my questions, but looking directly at the code isn't taking me where I need to go. Perhaps I just need pointers to specific header/source files? I'm sure if I could gain a better understanding of how compensation works in libavcodec, I would be better able to wield the codec. In short, would someone being willing to provide a brief description of how the two tie together? Cheers, Steve.
