Hi, I wanted to combine 12 flash video files (from youtube) into a single avi file. So I did cat at Zachar*.flv > Zach_all.flv $ mencoder Zach_all.flv -o Zach_all.avi -forceidx -ovc copy -oac pcm The output shows skipping frames, and missing aspect information, as you see below. What do I need to do to fix that, so thet when I am transcoding into .avi, I do not get these skips and missing aspect info? Help with MPG video encoding

Hi, I've got a question on how to get the best possible MPG encoding of a movie source, "at any price" so to speak -- i.e., as many bits as the encoder needs to get the highest possible video quality. It appears to me that the MPG encoding process is introducing artifacts that are present regardless of the amount of "free reign" I give to the encoder with respect to quantization, bitrate, and the like. My bottom line question is thus: "Are these artifacts inherent in MPG encoding, or am I just not twiddling the knobs and dials on the encoder correctly?" Here's all the details ... My source is a mixed hard- and soft-telecined "movie" at 1080/60i that I'm trying to tanscode to 480/24p, soft telecined to 480/60i, for ultimate burning to an NTSC DVD-Video. When I use mencoder to inverse telecine, crop out the crud, expand back to the original letterbox ratio (it's 2.35:1, not 16/9), and 'encode' the video with HUFFYUV (422P), the resulting video looks stunning, with no 'blocking' artifacts to speak of. This, of course, is as expected. But when I encode the video in MPG2 or MPG4, even with vqscale=1 or vqscale=2, I see sometimes severe blocking in the resulting video. Is this because the chroma is being subsampled vertically and horizontally (4:2:0), or is it because 'vqscale' is (perhaps necessary but) not sufficient to get "maximum quality at any price" encoding? Problem in mencodering one TS video

(1) Mencoder Version: MEncoder SVN-r34573-4.4.4 (C) 2000-2012 MPlayer Team (2) Video Format: MPEG4 encoded in TS format (3) Mencoder Command: mencoder -ss 13 -endpos 15 -nosound -ovc copy -of lavf -lavfopts format=ts -o outts.ts sgvideo.ts (4) Problem: When playing result video 'outts.ts', first 0s frame of source video sgvideo.ts was displayed for about one second(this part is not correct), then began to play from 13s of source video(this part is correct). If needed , I can upload my source video and resulted video. But I don't know where I should upload the video files.

Mpeg duration too short

Hello, I'm using mencoder to generate DVD-conform MPEGs from lossless FFv1/pcm_16sle AVI files. While doing so, I've realized that in 9/10 of all cases, the resulting mpegs are too short. It seems to be depending on the material within the video - and even the audio (!). In one case, I've removed the audio stream from the original lossless AVI and the resulting MPEG then had the full duration. Another thing I've noticed is, that the number of missing frames at the end somehow correlates with the keyframe-interval (keyint) used. In this case, the MPEG was encoded with keyint=25. Exactly the number of missing frames at the end. It seems that the missing frames are only dropped at the end of the video - not in between. I've verified that. I'd be very very happy for any information about why this happens - and how to resolve this, as I'd need the MPEG to match the original duration frame-exact. Thank you very much, Peter B.

manipulating audio channels on a VOB file

Hi all, I've a self-produced DVD with a video and a stereo audio stream. On the stereo audio stream I would like to overwrite the right audio channel with the left one. By playing a vob file in this way mplayer VTS_01_2.VOB -af channels=2:2:0:1:0:0 the result is perfect. But when I try to use mencoder in this way mencoder VTS_01_2.VOB -ovc copy -oac copy -af channels=2:2:0:1:0:0 -o pippo.vob it doesn't produce what I expect. Any suggestion about? Davide

Encode yields expected 2GB output, but drops to 2MB output when crop option added

Is there possibly a conflict between the "crop" option and those used in http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-vcd-dvd.html Section 7.8.5.1. Without the crop option, I get the desired output file of ~2GB. When I add the crop option, encoding finishes in about a minute, producing a 2MB file. video card onboard decoders

- I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this question, please redirect my to correct one. But here goes, my video card (AMD Radeon HD 6320 Discrete-Class Graphics), it's actually an APU. It's supposed to have a series of on board decoders h264, divx, xvid, mpeg2. Can mplayer and mencoder take advantage of these capabilities? Would someone being willing to give me a quick rundown of how these chips are used? Thanks in advance for any help provided, Steve

But that's whole lot of a border to be left black, or a whole lot of live video to waste... So, if the developers read me, I vote for more precision in the next mencoder release! On a more cheerful note (albeit a little embarssing to me), I made my first burned-in subtitle video with the program that is still, of all the programs, the most at my fingertips, with Mencoder: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-868401-highlight-.html#6917692 I have been using Mencoder for long, and occasionally still no other program comes any close for some tasks... Occasionally I still make superb recoding/compressing/archiving of video footage that is difficult to match by any other program. It may be that Mencoder is getting overshadowed by ffmpeg in HD, as I read somewhere... I can't even properly watch HD on my old equipment, and don't have sufficient experience to confirm that or say to the contrary. But I contributed a little to this list, like the little menc_avx_cp.sh script for cutting avi files ( http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mencoder-users/2010-May/011583.html ), and with some others, we discovered the workaround to digitize VHS tapes (there was an ugly A/V sync issue scaring us all, anyone in need of sorting some olde VHS who stumbles upon the current message, can go from, say: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mencoder-users/2010-April/011535.html ) I would like to post my mecoder.conf entire file, so possibly newbies can find some benefit in their exploring of Mencoder. On the other hand, it is best to have working profiles in the mencoder.conf that I intend to post. So, let's first see if the cropping precision will be taken care of, else the profiles in my current mencoder.conf wouldn't all work as they did for years... God bless! What do you think, Reimar, would it be worthwhile and useful that I post my mencoder.conf file with all the profiles that I used over quite a few years now, that I perfected actually (within my abilities) for my purposes over long years of use... for recording TV, or composite or satellite input, for transcoding and archiving various kinds of videos. It's not perfect, but occasionally I did achieve decisively superior results than are common with the same input... I would really only like to give a little back to open source, however little, as I am happy with the free software that we have bequeathed...
