Hi. I have troubles using -of mpeg. My command line is: mencoder -o "hm_test_mencoder_dvd_aacmp4_x264.avi" -ss 2:00 -endpos 20 \ -oac faac -faacopts br=64 -of mpeg -mpegopts format=dvd:tsaf -ovc x264 \ -x264encopts \ threads=1:bframes=0:frameref=7:direct_pred=auto:partitions=all:8x8dct:me=umh:subq=7:mixed_refs:trellis=2:crf=21 \ source.ts I have tried all combinations of "-vf harddup", "-noskip", and "-mc 0" (used dumbly, because I have read that it could help). All combinations lead to an empty generated file (strictly 0 byte), and output is full of "INITV: 0.200, 0.160, fps: 25.000". If I use format=mpeg1 or mpeg2, the INITV lines are still there, the produced files are exactly 4096 bytes long, and are not playable at all. What can I do to correctly encode/mux my extract? crswallow: A filter to reduce the amount of progress lines (e.g. by mencoder)

mencoder users might be interested: http://code.google.com/p/crswallow/ This software is a text filter for Linux/Unix environments. It processes text lines passed in from stdin and forwards most of them to stdout/stderr. Text lines which contain the carriage return character (cr) are often used by software to print progress information on a text console. They repeatedly update a single line on screen with the latest status. One example of such a software is the video encoding software mencoder. Some tools update the status very often, e.g. mencoder may do so several hundred times per second. Such output can be very disturbing when running software over a remote terminal connection with low bandwidth. Completely filtering such output is often not an opttion for jobs running over an extended period of time, because a limited amount of progress information is still desirable. The crswallow filter can limit status output to a single update in a given time interval, for example once per second. Regards

Confused with watermark options

Hi There, We have a rather "insistent" client that is wanting a watermark added to the video we encode from mp4 to m4v for them. I have had a good look round and am a little confused with the options here - can anyone point me in the correct direction on how to achieve this? Thanks Simon

Motion trails wanted! for art project

Hi, I'm looking for the best encoder options to enforce the - usually unwanted - motion trails sometimes seen in low quality internet videos or old rented DVDs. Furthermore I'm going to flip random bits in the videostream to mess things up even worse... (I've already done that with JPEGs and wavelet-JPEG2000) And I'm interested in the effects of "missed scene changes" when two scenes mix. So far i've experimented with last_pred and dia with mpeg4, but results weren't that good. Can someone think of good options to: - keep image quality good but rely heavily on motion detection ("nice blocks that move a lot") - make mencoder ignore scene changes (to be combined with the motion trails) Thanks in advance! Converting video codec ffh264

I store video files from a SAT receiver as ts files and convert to DVD. Converting the one with video codec ffh264 (i.e. the larger one) I see tons of lines saying Skipping frame! Error while decoding frame!6.24fps Trem: 88min 3998mb A-V:-0.010 [4182:192] Error while decoding frame!6.32fps Trem: 88min 3998mb A-V:-0.009 [4182:192] Pos: 18.5s 861f ( 0%) 66.33fps Trem: 88min 3971mb A-V:-0.011 [4169:192] I suspect that loose more quality than necessary ... can someone give me a hint how to retain the good quality of the ffh264 video ? Strange things when encoding with libx264: B frames, threads

Hello. I have troubles when encoding with libx264. I use mencoder SVN-r29766, and libx264 git 39f6499e3abcf473bdcbade38aba9a7490470e6a (both updated at the same time). When using a command line not specifying "bframes=0" in -x264encopts, B frames are generated, despite the man page says that default bframes value is 0. However, if I specify "bframes=0", no bframes are generated. What's wrong? My cmdline? man page? bug? Also, without specifying "threads=1" (like manpage says it is the default), mencoder process uses more than 300% CPU (quad core). I have the same questions about this issue. My typical command line is 'mencoder -o dest.avi -hr-edl-seek -edl edl-file -oac faac -faacopts br=128 -ovc x264 -x264encopts frameref=7:direct_pred=auto:partitions=all:8x8dct:me=umh:subq=7:mixed_refs:trellis=2:crf=21 source.ts' Regards.

Use of MEncoder in Java Application

Hello, I'm a new user of MEncoder. I'm reading the documentation for three weeks to encode multiple pictures into a mpeg movie. When I use the windows' shell, I can perfectly create the movie I want, but if I'm using the same command line in a Java application, using the Runtime API or a Shell API, I have the windows bug saying me that "MEncoder has encountered a problem and must be closed" Knowing that the encoding of a video works very well in the same java application... I'm on windows XP, I downloaded the "MPlayer/MEncoder svn rev 29355", so I didn't compile by myself. Flavien Audin

Copy subtitles?

Hello, I have an MPEG2 TS input, recorded off DVB-S, and want to convert it to an MPG. I would like to keep the (sole) subtitle track in the TS. I know how to copy video and audio (-ovc copy -oac copy). But, how do I copy the subtitles as well? -- Yours, Mikhail Ramendik

mencoder size and aspect ratios for H.264 video

I'm using mencoder to convert a DVD to a matroska file with H.264 video and Vorbis audio. But when I play the file, the aspect ratio is 2.43:1, when it should be 16:9. mkvmerge tells me it extracted the aspect ratio from the AVC video data as 2.43:1. "'video.x264' track 0: Extracted the aspect ratio information from the MPEG-4 layer 10 (AVC) video data and set the display dimensions to 854/352." mplayer tells me the aspect ratio is 16:9 on the original source DVD. "Movie-Aspect is 1.78:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect. VO: [xv] 720x480 => 854x480 Planar YV12" I would like to resize the video to 640x360 (or maybe 624x352 - some articles tell me both dimensions must be multiples of 16 - wasn't sure if that was correct). I am using MPlayer SVN-r29463-4.3.2 and mkvtoolnix 2.98 on 64-bit Linux.
