Cutting MOV file

Hello, I'm very new to mencoder and just trying to use it for cutting movies of various formats. So far it worked fine with AVI files but now I've got a problem with cutting a MOV file: mencoder -ss 00:01:00 -endpos 00:02:00 -ovc copy -oac pcm file.mov -o test.mov I used "-oac pcm" as suggested by mencoder (it didn't like "-oac copy" for some reason). I don't get any errors and the file can be played by mplayer. The problem is that from time to time the video gets garbled and then gets back to normal again after a few seconds. By garbled I mean very visible artifacts appear in different places of the video area. This happens periodically at irregular intervals. I'm not really sure what the problem could be. Do you have any ideas? Are there any options I could use that may help without reducing video quality? Problem with mencoder and mplayer both

Hello, all I capture films from my tv-card in .avi (mjpeg) format and then with mencoder i convert them to .mpg format, and i have no problem with this process, and all of these .mpg files can be played with mplayer on same linux and also with media player of Win-XP. But one of my files that i converted by mencoder to .mpg ( with length of 47 minutes), when i play it with mplayer it plays until time 10 minutes and 20 soconds, and then its sound cuts and the mplayer begins to show the following error repeatedly: "Too many video packets in the buffer: (4096 in 8354245 bytes). Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed? For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with the -ni option. " I searched about this error message in this mailing list, but i at last could not find the solution :-( what is the problem ? and how can i solve this problem? No any of these thing is the cause because: i usually capture many files on this computer and none of them has problem, neither with capturing nor with encoding. And during the capturing of this specific file no other cpu intensive task was doing on this computer. this computer is too fast that i can capture 3 films from 3 TV-card simultaneously without any problem. And the input file itself has no problem with sound when plays with same mplayer. Is there anyone that could solve the same problem with mencoder and mplayer ? Please be in details. resize and cut a video

Cannot achieve better picture quality with MPEG2 - help needed

I'm struggling to achieve better picture quality with mencoder and MPEG2, especially with video that contains gradients. I've uploaded a test example to ftp://upload.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/incoming/ File : gradient.avi (an lossless FFV1 rgb32 video file used for encoding) File : screenshots_gradient.psd (a photoshop file containing screenshots to compare original to encoded screenshots) The PSD contains three labeled layers: - the first, the source, an uncompressed gradient - the second, a screenshot of the resulting MPEG-2 created with MEncoder (command line to follow) - the third, a screenshot of the resulting MPEG-2 created with Adobe Media Encoder. You'll notice that the Adobe Media Encoder screenshot has a much better picture (far less color distortion and far less banding) than the MEncoder screenshot. I'm hoping to achieve better results with MEncoder. I'm not concerned with bitrate or time to encode, I simply want to match the picture as best I can. I've tried countless command line options but still to no avail. Can someone help me with this? Is it possible to get the picture retention I'm after with mencoder and MPEG-2? Preview while encoding

Hi all, I'm currently sampling some old video cassttes using MEncoder and a video capture card. MEncoder produces greate results, but the problem is that I don't know when to stop the encoding, since there is no preview on the screen. Is it possible to make MEncoder show a small monitor window, even updating once per several frames? Best Regards, Avishay

beginner question

Hello all, not sure if this is the right place to do, since i just signed up. but i am stuck with some mencoder parameters i can't figure out how to select the audio language from a dvd, so i can conver it. i have a 2 minute dvd, with some audio languages, but it's always grabbing the default language. also what does ftime mean? im almost thinking thats the audio delay, since when i did a conversion i had a few seconds difference according to the command line this is what i have mencoder.exe dvd://1 -dvd-device "c:\test dvd " -spuaa 1 -af volume=0 -aspect 16:9 -of lavf -lavfopts format=mp4 -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts aglobal=1:vglobal=1:vcodec=mpeg4:coder=1:acodec=libfaac:vbitrate=675:abitrat e=128:threads=2 -vf pp=fd,scale=320:180,harddup -ofps 25 -o "C:\New Folder\test7.mp4" thank you so much in advance. Hello But at last i don't know the cause of problem :-( is there any other one with relative opinion ? The cause probably is not from type of filesystem, because my input files are resided on the same filesystem. Messages are helpful when you can do something about them - but in this case I am unaware as to what would be done in the first place. This kind of feedback seems less than helpful.

Lots of decoder errors

I'm re-encoding from a bluray source, and the codec of the video stream in the m2ts file is h264. Couple of things I have noticed - mplayer cannot play the video stream from these kinds of m2ts files, but is able to play vc1 and mpeg2 content from them just fine. So I have to extract the video stream to a raw h264 file with eac3to, and then encode it from there.
