When I capture video from my TV card, I get a huge number of duplicated frames and skipped frames. To avoid it, I use the option noskip. But then a weird problem happens: a steadily increasing delay between the audio and the video. I can work around it by extracting the audio as pcm, applying the "tempo" sox effect to make the audio 0.1% longer, compress (with vorbis), and remux. However, I don't like the idea of irreversibly changing the PCM audio before encoding to vorbis. Can I make a "soft tempo" with mencoder? Or, can I avoid this 0.1% discrepancy in the first place? May this 0.1% discrepancy have anything to do with the famous 0.1% difference between the "natural" framerate of 30 and the real framerate of 30 / 1.001? About the skipped/duplicated frames: another poster suggested me to mess with .asoundrc, but I have not yet studied ALSA. mencoder, ac3 audio and mts conversion to avi

Hello, I'm using the m2tstoavi conversion scripts found at http://www.olmosconsulting.com/hdr-sr1/ The tools make use of mencoder, and ffmpeg to transcode the high definition video and Dolby audio to a format suitable to be held an avi container. Sorry if my use of these terms is wrong, I'm new to this. The m2tstoavi process basically separates the mts file into a yuv video and ac3 audio file, then combines them to an avi file. In theory.. I have MEncoder 1.0rc2-SUSE Linux 10.3. ffmpeg version SVN-r12823 configuration: --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/share/man --libdir=/usr/lib --shlibdir =/usr/lib --enable-pthreads --enable-shared --enable-swscale --disable-static --ena ble-libmp3lame --enable-libfaad --enable-libfaadbin --enable-libfaac --enable-libxv id --enable-libx264 --enable-liba52 --enable-liba52bin --enable-postproc --enable-s hared --enable-libdc1394 --enable-libtheora --enable-gpl libavutil version: 49.6.0 libavcodec version: 51.54.0 libavformat version: 52.13.0 libavdevice version: 52.0.0 built on May 3 2008 20:21:48, gcc: 4.2.1 (SUSE Linux) AVCHD .mts files are created with Panasonic HDC-SD9P. mencoder video codec in use = -ovc x264. mencoder audio codecs tried = -oac lavc with options of ac3. I also tried -oac copy. The Problems; I try to select -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=ac3,channels=6,abitrate=384 for the audio portion of the transcoding from ac3 to avi. This creates the avi with no sound. Video is nice, very smooth and high res. No audio. I find this in the program output; LAVF_header: av_find_stream_info() failed RAWDV file format detected. Q: If mplayer identifies the audio sample as ac3, should I be using ac3 codec in the transcoding process? Q2: When I run mencoder -oac help, it lists lavc as present. Why does my use of mencoder apparently ignore the lavcopts I chose? Q3: What is mencoder's use of lavc telling me when ffmepg cannot find dvaudio in libavcodec? I try a different method, more in the line of what Mr Olmos suggested, that is using -oac copy. Just trying -oac copy with no options fails, giving this info; Audio format 0x56444152 is incompatible with '-oac copy', please try '-oac pcm' instead or use '-fafmttag' to override it. I give the option -fafmttag 0x2000 based on success with mplayer. This creates an avi file, with audio. Yay! But.. The audio transcode portion gave this info during processing; Forcing output audio format tag to 0x2000. audiocodec: framecopy (format=2000 chans=0 rate=0 bits=16 B/s=3600000 sample-12928) Warning, len isn't divisible by samplesize! And at the very end of the process, I think during x264 processing, I get segfault. But the video is now choppy, the zoom-in is not as smooth, and the sound ends before the end of the video. Q: Why did x264 segfault? Q2: Why did video get choppy once audio was added? Is it load on the PC, or a factor of blending the two data streams, and I did not set options correctly? Q3: What is meant by len not divisible by samplesize? Does it mean length of the audio sample? Is the samplesize reported a negative number? Does this have anything to do with segfault? Q4: Why is # of channel seen as 0, and not 6 (for Dolby 5.1)? I understand there could be many things affecting the choppy video. Not so worried about it right now, because I made progress and have avi with picture and sound. I also understand that I can control - to a degree - how much the audio slips time in relation to the video. Will approach that 'later' after I have more understanding of all these fundamental (to me) questions. Sorry for the long post, and ignorance. Any comments or suggestions are warmly appreciated. How do I create a stream compliant with HD-receiver from DVD

Hello, I want to do the reverse job most people usually do: I have a video in DVD-format (VOBs etc.) an I want to bring it in a format so as to be able to be played from my Sat-Receiver. The receiver is a Kathrein UFS822. In brief: I want to convert my DVD to some output format, copy it to the HD of my receiver, and watch it from there. The video recorded don't give me much information, as they don't seam to contain headers, etc. I have not much knowledge about video formats, so I have no idea what kind of output I should create, nor have I deaper knowledge about things ike bitrates, etc. I hope sb out there can give me some hints how to proceed. movie aspect pb

PAL -> NTSC

Hello all, I've had a look through the archive, but couldn't see anything specifically on this. I have an interlaced PAL AVI captured from a DV source and want to convert it to an interlaced NTSC AVI. I'm new to mencoder and keep finding myself lost in the sea of commands... I know i need the frame rate converted from 25fps to 29.97fps, the size from 720*576 to 720*480, and the field dominance reversed. I'm trying... mencoder file.avi -ovc raw -vf scale=720:480:1 -field-dominance 1 -ofps 30000/1001 -oac pcm -o file_ntsc.avi At the moment, it's throwing up a -vo error, which i think is to do with the fact the PAL AVI is in a Matrox DVCPRO format, so I'm playing it out as an uncompressed AVI to try again. Do I have to change the pixel aspect ratio, and if so, how do i do that in mencoder? Any other thoughts, comments or suggestions? I'm trying to avoid going the AVIsynth route for the moment. I also tried with level_idc=13. Any idea? What are the mandatory parameters? Only global_header, nocabac and level_idc? problem with big files

Hello all i have 2 .avi file sized 4.9 Gig and 12 Gig, and i want to convert them to 2 mpeg files, but when i run mencoder as usual to change these files, it works on them until it reaches the 4096 MB of input file and then it stops without any unusual message :-( Then i got the last version of mplayer sources (1-rc2) and myself compiled it with option --enable-largefiles and again converted those files with new mencoder, but no any benefits was made. The filesystems that i used for input and output files were ext3. and the OSs were Ubuntu-710-amd64 and Knoppix-5.1.5 on 2 computers with same result. What is the problem , and its solutions ? encoding speed

Hi, I actually encode with (please excuse the line wrapping) : -vf crop=$CROP,scale=$SCALE,hqdn3d=2:1:2,harddup -ovc x264 -x264encopts bitrate=$BR:subq=5:partitions=all:8x8dct:frameref=2:bframes=3:b_pyramid:weight_b:turbo=1:pass=1 -vf crop=$CROP,scale=$SCALE,hqdn3d=2:1:2,harddup -ovc x264 -x264encopts bitrate=$BR:subq=5:partitions=all:8x8dct:frameref=2:bframes=3:b_pyramid:weight_b:pass=2 but sometimes it's slow (especially with big scale). Sure I can put turbo=2 etc...But I wonder whether if it's not croping and scaling which waste time. Is it possible to use libavcodec x.264 to benefit autoaspect option ? And how to use it ? Remuxing to mp4 on windows

I've had trouble remuxing to mp4 on windows following the docs: 14.7.8. Remuxing as MP4 Mencoder command line example: mencoder -vf harddup -ovc x264 -x264encopts pass=1:turbo:bitrate=900:bframes=1:me=umh:partitions=all:trellis=1:qp_step=4:qcomp=0.7: direct_pred=auto:keyint=300 -oac faac -faacopts br=192:mpeg=4:object=2 -channels 2 -srate 48000 -ofps 24000/1001 export.avs -o h264.avi I then dump the streams using Mplayer. I've tried using mp4creator - mpeg4ip version 1.5.11 (windows binary), but I get the following message: "Error decoding sei message" <----Does anyone know what this means??? command line example: mp4creator -create=h264.h264 -rate 23.976 out.mp4 Also, I have had trouble with MP4Box - GPAC version 0.4.5-DEV (build 19 - Apr 13 2008) and the method described to dump the video and audio streams using Mplayer. Mp4box reports that: "Cannot find H264 start code Error importing h264.h264:fps=23.976: BitStream Not Compliant" <----Does anyone know what this means??? command line example : MP4Box -add h264.h264:fps=23.976 out.mp4 The only method that has seemed to work for me is to create the avi using avi2raw (mpeg4ip version 1.5.11) to dump the video and then use MP4Box to mux. mp4creator does not seem to work with either avi2raw or mplayer dumps. Does anyone have anything to add to this? Another technique? Something I'm doing wrong?
