audio slew when enocding from TVtuner

Hi, I have tried to encode from a Pinnacle PCTV USB tuner with the following options: mencoder -endpos $endpos -o name.avi tv:// \ -tv amode=0:input=1:norm=PAL:width=720:height=576:driver=v4l2:\ device=/dev/video0:outfmt=i420:alsa:adevice=hw.2:immediatemode=0:forceaudio\ -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=1200 -vf pp=lb -ffourcc XVID \ -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=192 However, I have found that the audio volume (from snd_usb_audio driver) is too low (dumping it to wav, sox -e stat suggested 5.xx volume adjustment). Then I have tried -af volnorm, and -vf crop=688:560:16:8,pp=lb and at the end of a 6000 sec recording there was a 10 second desynch between the audio and video stream. :-( Then I tried to omit outfmt=..., lower abitrate, omit -af volnorm, crop=... and autoaspect, and test it with ~600 sec. recordings. But the experienced desynch. has remained. Now, finally, I omit -vf pp=lb, though it is a 25fps composit input and formerly I obtained interlaced (striped) avi. However, now, it seems good: mencoder -endpos $endpos -o name.avi tv:// \ -tv amode=0:input=1:norm=PAL:width=720:height=576:driver=v4l2:\ device=/dev/video0:alsa:adevice=hw.2:immediatemode=0:forceaudio\ -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=1200:autoaspect\ -vf crop=688:560:16:8 -ffourcc XVID\ -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=192 -af volnorm Is it possible? What can cause the mentioned slew between A-V? sZs PS: the version of the first mencoder is not sure, but the version used in the latest tests was: MEncoder dev-CVS-060307-23:29-3.3.5

Mosaic or Picture in picture filter for mencoder?

Hello, i've been looking thru the mencoder docs and filters and I can't find a way to do picture in picture. I have two v4l2 video sources (/dev/video0 and /dev/video1), I would like to encode /dev/video1 and /dev/video0 at the same time into the same file but have /dev/video1 offset and smaller then (/dev/video0). Basically, like an overlay. To give you a better idea there is a great example using ppmfilter ( http://users.pandora.be/acp/ppmfilter) called video stacking: which will overlays one video on top of another which is my goal. ffmpeg2ppm bottom.mpeg | ppmfilter --stack-video top.mpeg --overlay position=60,10:30x30 | ppmplay Also there is a very nice Mosaic example http://users.pandora.be/acp/video/check out mosaic.mpeg. In this example there looks to be more then 4 video captures encoded into the same mpeg, each with its own dimensions. Thanks for the help. -ff

x264 profiles

I am trying to reencode a dvd to x264 and am finding the multitude of encoding options slightly overwhelming. Is there any way to use the fantastic looking profiles at http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=101813 for example, with mencoder? I can see that one option is to go through each xml file and attempt to hand translate into the mencoder profile format but I would like to try to avoid that if at all possible. I attach an example profile below. Mencoder v4l2?

I just downloaded the CVS version of Mplayer, version 20060310, and the ./configure command isn't detecting v4l2 drivers. I was able to use v4l2 drivers in an older version of Mplayer, do I need to do something different in the ./configure command? Thanks for your help!

Interleaving and scale on noncompres

Hi, I used this to my video from my dv camera (AVI-DV FullPAL 720x576, interlaved) to remove interlaving and change size (because camera take 16:9 but 720x576 is 5:4) mencoder source.avi -oac copy -ovc copy -vf pp=lb,scale=768:576 -o output.avi Filesize of output is 6times lower. It is strange. Mayby interlaving is removed. And it there is no change size and I`m not sure if interlaving is removed (the video is slow). Maybe yes. It is not possible to use -vf with -ovc copy My problem is to join it with two other videos which are not interlaved (generated from pitures) so I wanted rescale remove interlaving before joining. Best options for H.264

Hi, I would like to compress my videos from Linux conference. I would like to use H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) format. Is here anybody who have some good options for mencoder for this reason? Source is DV video from camera. FullPAL 720x576. I would like compress 1 hour video to approximately 500, 600, 700 MiB. What do You think about it? It is conference. Not so much movement, but on there are details (data projector). I can use multipass. Process time is not problem. Some ideas? Jirka (GeBu)
