problem re-encoding 5.1 audio ... channels get mixed up

Hi, I have a file with 5.1 audio that I want to re-encode as 5.1, basically so I can apply the "volnorm" filter and raise the sound level. I use the following command: mencoder <input-file> -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=ac3:abitrate=448:vbitrate=1350:vpass=1 -ffourcc DIVX -channels 6 -af volnorm -o <output-file> The command completes correctly but when I play the file on my 5.1 speakers I find the channel outputs have been transposed ie. the original file plays fine but when playing my re-encoded file the centre channel appears to be front-right, front-right is now rear-right... etc... As I'm not applying any channel filters I wouldn't have expected this to happen. Does anyone know why this occurs? Is it a common problem? Is there any workaround? Is there an alternative method to normalize the volume on the original stream? I've searched the archive and couldn't locate a similar question. Much thanks, Phil.

Remove gmc

Hi, Avi is a cartoon: I will use -cartoon. I have an avi file (xvid + ac3) with gmc enabled. I must remove gmc flag with no loose quality. Exist some mencoded's option for reencode my file without lose quality? I do not know all original encode parameters. Final size is no problem and time to reencode it is no a problem but final file must be an xvid.

Hey, I use mencoder to convert divx movies to DVD mpg, for further DVD authoring, dvdauthor only accepts MPEG files of certain resolution that corresponds to PAL DVD or NTSC DVD format Anyways, that was just introduction to convert movies i use (copyed from manual) mencoder -oac lavc -ovc lavc -of mpeg -mpegopts format=dvd -vf scale=720:576,harddup -srate 48000 -af lavcresample=48000 -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:vrc_buf_size=1835:vrc_maxrate=9800:vbitrate=5000:keyint=15:acodec=ac3:abitrate=192:aspect=16/9 -ofps 25 -o output.mpg input.avi That works fine with input files that have aspect ratio of 16/9. However I got this really weird movie, which is like extra wide :P its resolution is 640 x 272. When I use the listed above command, it literally shrinks it to 720:576 (pal dvd format) and all faces become like squashed. Output variable framerate?

Hello, I have a video (ripped from DVD) that contains two types of scenes: genuine 30fps interlaced scenes and 24fps scenes telecined to 30fps. When I use -vf pullup with -ofps 29.97, mencoder does a great job at removing all the interlacing artifacts in both types of scenes, but generates one extra frame every other 5 in the telecined case, giving a jerky output. When instead I use -vf pullup with -ofps 24, the 30fps scenes become jerky because of the frames dropped. So, ideally, I would like to encode in a variable framerate, going from 30fps to 24fps, depending on the scene. Is there a way to inform mencoder to do such a thing? For instance, I could first run -vf pullup -ofps 29.97, then another run when mencoder detects patterns of duplicate frames to infer the lower framerate in the scenes where it is the case. Before i encode a film from DVD to AVI, i usually try to get the selected title info by 'mplayer .... -idnetify' but it very often gives back bad title length, very often it's zero-length, while trcprobe and lsdvd gives the correct lengths. why is that? toba

How to exclude the dots on both sides (on the left and the right) of the DVD moving object in a picture?

I searched manual for mencoder for one subject and didn't find what I wanted, at least it didn'r work for me... My goals were: . to play DVD without dots on both sides (on the left and the right) of the moving object in a picture (I've heard the players do it automaticly today but I didn't notice that); . to encode AVI from such DVD that the resulting AVI might be without those dots also. cropdetect cuts off bottom of subtitles

I am using mencoder -endpos 120 -ovc lavc -oac copy -o /dev/null -vf cropdetect dvd.avi which I let run for a minute or two. I mainly use below for NTSC TV captured movies -vf pullup,softskip,crop=704:352:8:64,scale=640:352,hqdn3d=4:3:6,pp=l5,harddup pp=l5 is for TV subs, and also for reducing TV noise. -ofps 24000/1001 for AVIs. -ofps 24.000 for rawvideo .264. this is for mp4box. It wont accept 24000/1001 or 1001:24000, and when I use 23.976, it makes 23.975fps movies. >24 fps --> 3.6 seconds error per hour >23.976 fps --> about 0.0036 seconds error per hour
