Hi everybody! i want to split a 1,7 gb mpeg2 file to 2 parts how can i make it? i try: C:\Program Files\mplayer>mencoder "E:\movie\input.mpg" -o "out.mpg" -ss 1mb -endpos 70mb -oac copy -ovc copy it make a 70 mb movie, but i cannot playback it why? the ovc set copy... pls help, thx

Hi I'm just coding a graphical conversion utility between DVD<->AVI formats. Is there a way to requantize a source DVD9 title to fit DVD5 using MPEG2 techniques in mencoder? I guess 'transcode' has such feature. thanks

RGB => YV12 conversion

Hi all. I'm trying to encode a movie in mpeg4, using lavc. I'ld like to convert it to YV12. What ever I do, it never seems to work. Typically I tried: mencoder -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vbitrate=1000 input.avi -o output.avi -vf format=yv12,scale mencoder -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vbitrate=1000 input.avi -o output.avi -vf format=yv12,scale=640:-11 mencoder -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts format=yv12:vbitrate=1000 input.avi -o output.avi -vf format=yv12,scale Whatever I do, when I play output.avi with mplayer, I got: VIDEO: [FMP4] 640x320 24bpp 29.970 fps 737.7 kbps (90.0 kbyte/s) The documentation says that lavc can encode in yv12. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks for help.

rc buffer underflows

Hi, I am converting some files to mpeg2 raw video (PAL DVD) and I am getting a lot of messages like this: [mpeg2video @ 0x857b330]rc buffer underflow [mpeg2video @ 0x857b330]rc buffer underflowin 449mb A-V:0.000 [2904:0] The command I am using is: mencoder -of rawvideo -vf scale=720:576,harddup -nosound -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:keyint=25:vbitrate=4305043:aspect=4/3:vrc_maxrate=9800:vrc_buf_size=1835:vpass=2 -mpegopts format=dvd -speed 40000/40000 -ofps 25 -passlogfile video.pass -o video.m2v video.ogm Later when I try to mplex these, I get a lot of errors (I am unsure if the problems are related, but I suspect that the mencoder buffer underflows are responsible). I would be grateful to know what causes these buffer underflows and what (if anything) I can do to fix them. n0dalus.

MKV to AVI file

What's the best way to convert an mkv file to an AVI file? I thought I could just use mencoder to convert from an mkv to an avi (and maybe you can and I was just doing it wrong), but mencoder complained about bad frames, skipped frames, etc, all over the place. The file appears to have 3 tracks: Mpeg4, AC3, and MP3 It may have two language tracks, one done in MP3 and one done in AC3, I'm not sure. Should I use mkvextract from the mkvtools and break it out into its components and then use mencoder to put it back together? I just don't want to spend a lot of time with trial and error trying to get this thing converted. I've already lost a few hours just trying a straight conversion. Time to get some info. Thanks. Pete

Too many video packets in the buffer

Hi there, I'm trying to encode a dvd to use on my HTPC using the following script... *nice -n 3 mencoder dvd://$1 -oac copy -mc 0 -vf crop=720:416:0:82,hqdn3d=2:1:2 -ovc lavc \ -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=2400:v4mv:mbd=2:trell:cmp=3:subcmp=3:mbcmp=3:autoaspect:vpass=1 \ -o movie.avi nice -n 3 mencoder dvd://$1 -oac copy -mc 0 -vf crop=720:416:0:82,hqdn3d=2:1:2 -ovc lavc \ -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=2400:v4mv:mbd=2:trell:cmp=3:subcmp=3:mbcmp=3:autoaspect:vpass=2 \ -o movie.avi * Initially I was getting the 'Frame Skipped' message, I think the audio was losing sync over time. I added the -mc 0 option like above which starts encoding fine but after a few mins I get the 'Too many video packets in the buffer' error message and I've no idea how to solve this? 2nd quick question is there anything I can add to my script to instruct mencoder to encode the main title instead of having to find it manually? Mencoder and FLV (Flash video)

Hello everyone, I'm new to the list but have been using Mencoder for some time now. Guillaume mentioned to me that flv encoding should work in mencoder now. Right now I have mencoder output to mjpeg and then convert to flv with ffmpeg, which sucks. As noted in the latest DOCs (http://mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-enc-libavcodec.html) flv is now a supported libavcodec codec. Unfortunately I could not get it to work at all. This works in ffmpeg: ffmpeg -y -i 1.avi -ar 22050 -acodec mp3 -vcodec flv 2.flv But in mencoder nothing works, this is one of the commands I tried, I tried hundreds of variations: mencoder 1.avi -o 2.flv -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=flv:acodec=mp3:abitrate=56 -srate 22050 Something comes out, but nothing plays correctly. You can get a flv player here: http://www.martijndevisser.com/archives/000021.php I already donated $100 to mplayer when the server died, but since this is important for my company, I will donate another $100 to mplayer or pay the person that gives me the working command. The person can choose if they want the money or if they want it donated in their name. I must be about to repro it on my computer. Thanks, Ryan

I figured I might be able to save someone the irritation of having to spend an hour experimenting with options in order to figure out which ones the TiVo accepts.
