[BUG] mencoder fails to encode VOB file

Hello, When mencoder is invoked as follows it fails to encode the VOB file. for VPASS in 1 2; do mencoder -ss 0:05:27.3 -endpos 0:0:0.53 \ -oac lavc -ovc lavc -vf crop=720:416:0:80 \ -lavcopts \ vpass=$VPASS:vmax_b_frames=2:vb_strategy=1\ /cdrom/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB -o out.avi; \ done This always fails on the 2nd pass and I have narrowed it down to the timeframe shown in the command. The error is as follows: mencoder: ratecontrol.c:661: ff_rate_estimate_qscale: Assertion `pict_type == rc Aborted Using avidemux the offending segment was saved into a 916 KB file and the above mencoder command fails on this: http://www.yucc.org.uk/jay/clip.avi If the offending clip is saved using "mencoder -oac copy -ovc copy" and encoded with the above command, mencoder succeeds. My original list of lavcopts was longer. The combination shown above was the shortest I could find that would fail. Taking any one option away makes the encoding succeed. It also works if there is no crop. The following lavcopts combinations succeed: vpass=$VPASS:vb_strategy=1 vpass=$VPASS:vmax_b_frames=2 vmax_b_frames=2:vb_strategy=1 Hope this report is useful as it has taken me a few days to prune everything down. segfaults caused by vf scale ???

Greetings everybody, I hope someone can help me. I am trying to re-encode a video I have so that it is readable by the Nokia770. I am using a script that people found works (http://maemo.org/maemowiki/VideoEncoding) that basically uses variations of the command line: mencoder infile.avi -oac mp3lame -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 -vf scale=352:208 -ffourcc DIVX -ofps 15 -o outfile.avi no matter which variation I use of the command, I always get a Segmentation fault - with no exlanations. Except when I take away the "-vf scale" option: in this case it works perfectly. BUT! For my use it is fundamental to rescale it, since the device is very picky about the frame sizes/bitrates ... do you have any hint? Hi I rip complete dvd to hard. Now encoding. mencoder dvd://1 -dvd-device /path/:to/:directory/ -chapter 1 -sid 0 .... With this i don't have subtitles in output file. For chapters 2 and 3 i have subtitles. When i use mencoder dvd://1 /x/file.vob -chapter 1 -sid 0 .... i have subtitles for chapter 1 and for all other chapters When i rip directly from dvd i don't have subtitles for chaper 1, and for all other chapters i have subtitles. Maybe i am doing something wrong and maybe this is a bug. Any idea? Thanks stanks

Segfault when using v4l2 input with full-feature DVB card

MEncoder and subtitles

Hi! I have a problem encoding a movie with a text subtitles. It seems that mencoder is ignoring all subtitle font related options (-font and -subfont-text-size). I am converting a DivX movie to a 3gp format (mencoder/ffmpeg) suitable for watching on a mobile phone and wanted to add a tiny subtitles from a '.sub' file. What is interesting is that mplayer has no problem with subtitle manipulation. mplayer movie.avi -font '/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSans.ttf' -subfont-text-scale 5 -sub "subtitles.sub" -vf crop=690:570,scale=176:-2,expand=176:144:0:0:1 ...works perfectly, but mencoder movie.avi -oac pcm -af resample=8000,volume=+8db:sc -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 -vf crop=690:570,scale=176:-2,expand=176:144:0:0:1 -o out.avi -ofps 12 -font '/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSans.ttf' -subfont-text-scale 5 -sub "subtitles.sub" ...gives me default subtitle style (default font and default, unscaled font size)! Changing -font and -subfont-text-scale has no effect. MEncoder doesen't even complain if I give it a nonexisting font name (mplayer complains). I am using Ubuntu mplayer/mencoder (ver. 1.0-pre7cvs20050) and both seem to be compiled with the FreeType support: # ldd `which mencoder` | grep type libfreetype.so.6 => /usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6 (0xb79b5000) Has anyone got a clue as to what could be the problem? Audio out of sync with MKV to AVI conversion

Hi, I am using mencoder to batch convert a bunch of matroska files into avi format. I have used the most obvious command line: mencoder -oac copy -ovc copy in.mkv -o out.avi This works, but I get a "1 duplicate frame(s)!" several times per second, and the resulting avi has audio out of sync! "mplayer -identify" tells me that the input file has 29.970 fps, and the audio is AC3 at 192kbps. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! avi->dvd: -oac copy jerky

after three days of experimenting, i found that: when converting AVI+5.1AC3 to dvd compliant MPEG2 stream with -oac copy (i.e i wanted to preserve the 6ch audio track as is in the original avi), the resulting mpeg2 stream is ok (also my harware player plays it ok), but after authoring (dvdauthor) and burning it (k3b) as Video DVD, the sam ehardware player jerks from time to tim. this jerkiness becomes more and more often until it stops fully. but when i use the same command line BUT change and put '-oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=ac3:br=192...' instead of '-oac copy', everything's fine then. it's a pity i cannot preserve 6 channels, but these two would do as well. toba
