Hi I bought a new DVD, but can't watch it. Using libdvdread 4.2.0 lsdvd eats a lot of memory and gives the following messages: $ lsdvd libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.13 for DVD access *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1251 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 *** *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1980 *** *** for pgci_ut->nr_of_lus < 100 *** Please send bug report - no VTS_TMAPT ?? *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1251 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 *** *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1980 *** *** for pgci_ut->nr_of_lus < 100 *** Please send bug report - no VTS_TMAPT ?? *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1251 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 *** With a more recent version from git it doesn't use that much memory and outputs just: $ lsdvd *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1246 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 *** *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1246 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 *** libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 2 (VTS_02_0.BU). There are 1 angles in this DVD title. *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1246 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 *** *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1246 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 *** libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 2 (VTS_02_0.BU). which one?
Using libdvdread 4.2.0 lsdvd eats a lot of memory and gives the following messages:
$ lsdvd libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.13 for DVD access
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1251 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 ***
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1980 *** *** for pgci_ut->nr_of_lus < 100 ***
Please send bug report - no VTS_TMAPT ??
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1251 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 ***
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1980 *** *** for pgci_ut->nr_of_lus < 100 ***
Please send bug report - no VTS_TMAPT ??
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1251 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 ***
With a more recent version from git it doesn't use that much memory and outputs just:
Which repository did you use as libdvdread is in Subversion as far as I know.
$ lsdvd
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1246 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 ***
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1246 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 ***
libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 2 (VTS_02_0.BU). Can't open ifo 2!
Building `libdvdread` with debugging symbols and attach to it with GDB and printing out the actual values (and trying to override them), might be worth a shot.
And mplayer produces: Playing dvd://2. There are 99 titles on this DVD. There are 1 angles in this DVD title.
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1246 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 ***
*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1246 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 ***
libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 2 (VTS_02_0.BU).
Cannot open the IFO file for DVD title 2. No stream found to handle url dvd://2
I tried it on different computers, so it is not a hardware problem. Only one Window Media Player could actually play it. Any help would be appreciated.
I have to run, so just my first stab by asking: “Might this be related to the Lauchpad bug report [1]?”. Thanks, Paul [1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdvdnav/+bug/1094499

don't know about the invalid IFO, but since there are 99 titles, it's a clear sign to me that it is a copy protection scheme often used now by DVDs by Paramount or Disney. I don't even try playing them with dvd://, I use dvdnav:// instead. You might have to play the DVD with -v and dvdnav:// to find out which of the 99 titles contains the main feature. Other titles have the same feature, but with some chapters missing or in different order, just to irritate the player software. -- cheers, Alex
I don't think lsdvd uses dvdnav, but rather just dvdread directly. And since most of the improvements to handle marginal DVDs (like copy protection schemes) need to be done at the dvdnav level rather than dvdread, apps like lsdvd won't work. Consider trying apps that use dvdnav directly, like handbrake, mplayer (with dvdnav://), xine, or any other number of of apps. I brought this issue up with the lsdvd author some time ago, and he says he's no longer supporting it, so I consider it a dead end at this time. mrc

Good to know. I updated now libdvdread and libdvdnav and vlc was finally able to play the DVD. There is still the problem that it starts with the wrong track, but at least I could watch it. :) If it is of any help, vlc/libdvdread outputs a couple of error messages like: *** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1246 *** *** for vts_ptt_srpt->title[i].ptt[j].pgn != 0 *** libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 3 (VTS_03_0.BU). and [0x7fa288005a58] main input error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called libdvdnav: Suspected RCE Region Protection!!! BTW, which one of the following repositories should I use? svn://svn.mplayerhq.hu/dvdnav/trunk/libdvdread git://github.com/microe/libdvdread.git git://git.videolan.org/libdvdread.git

mplayer didn't really work but then again I didn't try all 99 tracks. Thanks for helping out, Jan

As I mentioned earlier, play the disk with mplayer -v dvdnav:// (without a title number), then select the main feature in the menu and look at the debug output, you'll see which title is played, when the message "switching to track xy" appears. -- cheers, Alex
