Hello,

I've looked through all the FAQ's and tips on encoding and can't encode a MONO .avi file from a DVD.

I have a very slow computer that will play 320x240 MONO avi's very well.

Here's some of the things I've tried:

3Pass attemp:

mencoder -dvd 1 -dvd-device /dev/cdrom1 -ovc frameno -oac mp3lame -lameopts vbr=3 vol=10 mode=3 -o frameno.avi
mencoder -dvd 1 -dvd-device /dev/cdrom1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=1:aspect=16/9:vbitrate=774 -vop scale=320:240 $
mencoder -dvd 1 -dvd-device /dev/cdrom1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=2:aspect=16/9:vbitrate=774 -vop scale=320:240 $

One pass attempt:

mencoder -o test3-mono.avi -dvd 1 -dvd-device /dev/cdrom1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=1:vbitrate=773 -vop scale=320:240 -oac mp3lame -lameopts vbr=3 vol=10 mode=3 -af pan=1:0.5:0.5 -channels 1

I'm probably just not understanding how to use mencoder's options, but no matter how I try to encode the audio to single channel mono it comes out 2 channel stereo.

If someone could please offer some assistance I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks much,
