will be as a source package,

As long as I know (really not much) DivX codecs were released to
opensource at www.projectmayo.com (or .org) But I'm not sure, excuse
my ignorance.

Al that has been done was include a debian/ dir so debian users will
hace an easier way to install an update mplayer. But you can install
with make install if you want.

The codecs aren't on the CVS so they won't be on the package once
you've build it, codecs are on a zip file at mplayer's website.

So you shouldn't care.

About DLL's they were included in linux because nobody cared on
building a nice .so for specific video formats, and the owners of
copyright didn't release code so the only way was using DLL's, now
that DivX is opensource, a DivX library for linux is being built, but
it isn't usable yet, just check it's website (www.projectmayo.com or
.org not sure)

And for last, I don't know anything about video programing I only play
with console and network stuff on C/C++, so excuse my ignorance on
video programming, I'll try to take a look at it as soon as I have
time ;o)
