Just for information, MPlayer in Debian/Ubuntu (at least one version)
links against libxml2 as well:
$ /usr/bin/mplayer | head -n1
MPlayer 1.3.0 (Debian), built with gcc-7 (C) 2000-2016 MPlayer Team
$ ldd /usr/bin/mplayer | grep xml
libxml2.so.2 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxml2.so.2 (0x00007fe643aa9000)
Thanks,
Erik
