It is hard to say something for certain without a gdb backtrace
or better a valgrind log of a MPlayer binary with debug info,
But it looks a lot like a bug in ALSA libraries.

That is from 2009-12-16, i.e. over 4 years old, so bugs in
it are somewhat likely.
