[MPlayer-users] 608 SMTE 436M

I cannot seem to get closed captions to work on mplayer.

mplayer C0001.MXF  -vf scale=480:640 -demuxer lavf -aid 1 -sid 1

I have tried various mxf files that all verified via media info as
well as as many option I could muster. I have read that VLC does not
support 608 only 708. Is this the same for MPLAYER?
Has anybody been able to read 608?
