[MPlayer-users] Play audio on TV, not computer speakers

I'm on a Linux PC and I'm playing video onto an HDTV connected
via an HDMI cable.  Currently, the sound is played through the
computer speakers.  I want the sound to be played on the TV 

speakers (thru the HDMI cable).  Is this possible with mplayer?
I tried mplayer options '-ao pulse' and 'ao -alsa' and anything else
I could think of.  If this is possible, what is the correct way to do this?
