I'm not sure. But I went through gnome-screensaver document and found it provides a dbus-calling method named 'Inhibit', which is to inhibit gnom-screensaver from being active until the calling progress  exits. This seems more appropriate than keeping interrupting  it. And this should be integrated into mplayer codes, i.e., once mplayer starts the 'Inhibit' request is sent to gnome-screensaver through dbus, which is cancelled later when mplayer exits.
