[MPlayer-users] How to generate soft subtitles with mencoder ?

Ok. So there is no way to do this with mencoder and mkv file as input and output in a single pass ?
The problem I'm having with mkvtool is I don't see a way to do the transencoding to reduce the files resolution/bitrate so I think I need to do that with mencoder.

mkvtoolnix + mkvtoolnix-gui (gui part is with debian based distributions
- other could have it embedded inside main package... or not.
