[MPlayer-users] How to get Apple Repote to work on OS X 10.8.2

This may be something trivial, but I cannot get Apple Remote to work on Mac Mini, OS X 10.8.2, with mplayer-export-2012-12-01.
mplayer was compiled with configure flags --enable-menu --enable-apple-remote --disable-tv --disable-gl, gcc version 4.2.1 (Based on Apple Inc. build 5658) (LLVM build 2336.11.00).
mplayer just does not react in any way to the remote's buttons, 'mplayer -msglevel input=7' does not reveal anything interesting:
Parsing input config file /Users/rai/.mplayer/input.conf
Input config file /Users/yes/.mplayer/input.conf parsed: 2 binds
Added a couple of lines to input.conf as a test:
AR_PLAY pause
AR_NEXT seek +10
(remote does not work without input.conf either)
On the same machine Apple Remote works just fine with VLC and MplayerX buinary builds downloaded from corresponding sites.
So, do I need some extra build configuration flags, or have specific libraries installed, or some particular flags added to mplayer command line to enable use of the remote?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks,
=R.
