[MPlayer-users] enable static possible?

Hello all.
This may be a common question, but I can't seem to figure out a work-around.

$ ./configure --enable-static && make
...

No amount of tweaking config.mak seemed to help me.  Am I missing a library?
(ubuntu 10.04 or so).
