The most common sample size is 2. Sample size 1 exhibits a very audible 
quantisation noise. Sample size 3 is usually only used by high-profile 
professional equipment, or (uselessly) generated by oversampling (aka 
interpolation).

Sample sizes of more than 3 bytes are unlikely to be useful with audio data.
