Bugs like this one can come from virtually anywhere. I once had a
nasty bug about sync, and it was somehow related to my alsa driver so
you can get the scope. There are lots of factors involved in media
playing. In any case, if the OP has a problem with mplayer s/he should
report it in their mailing lists. I did, and I found them to be very
constructive and efficient.
