And you still don't have to. The libdvdread4 directory is still included
in the tarballs, I double-checked.
FFmpeg admittedly is missing though, would people much like to have that
included?

There's the include for the bundled dvdread.

$ ls libdvdread4/dvdread/dvd_reader.h 
libdvdread4/dvdread/dvd_reader.h

And that file exists.
So I can't see how that would happen.
