Sounds like it is known to be broken, consider compiling yourself from latest

My DVD device is /dev/sr0 and the following shows that a user has to be part of
the "cdrom" group to have write access to the device:

$ ls -l /dev/sr0
brw-rw----+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 2011-08-30 20:11 /dev/sr0
