[MPlayer-users] [bug] libass + SRT subtitle = CRASH

I'm using SMPlayer, but the front end doesn't crash, mplayer crashes and
SMPlayer just reports it in a nice error dialog. Just to clarify that the
problem is not gui related.

Well, I downloaded a standalone SRT subtitle, and found out it's encoded in
UTF-8, with BOM (byte order mark). I'm using it with a mkv file, it plays
fine, no problem at all.
When I disabled the ASS/SSA library support in SMPlayer, the video just
plays fine. If I enable, it crashes before playing anything.

I thought it was related to the BOM, and then tried using the same subtitle,
without BOM. Same error. I can just play the SRT subtitle + video with
libass support disabled.
I think that libass should support SRT files, or mplayer should detected the
type of subtitle and use the proper filter.

I can supply a sample video file and the subtitles (bom and no bom) if
necessary.
